Great news. Ryan Gordon, the one who ported UT2k3, will be working on and finishing UT X.
We're going to take [Westlake's] codebase, I'm going to look at what we have for the Linux codebase that Loki did for Unreal Tournament, which has been merged into UTPG's code repository?I'm going to take that, I'm going to take what Glenda gave me, I'm going to see what's what, and I'm going to get a Mac OS X version of it done?get it done, finished, and correct.

WOOHOO!!
That is indeed great news! Recently I had heard that Glenda left Westlake and wouldn't be finishing UT for X. I thought the project was dead. Can't wait for it to be completed!

This is good news, especially for the machines that won't be able to run UT2003.
Perhaps, there was something about the delay of UT2003 that made them decide to finish UT for Mac OS X properly.

Theoretically yes, since it uses the same engine, but practically, Ryan would have to get the code for that game as well, and I don't know what that entails. Epic may have no interest in porting the game. I'm still curious why Epic is interested in porting the old UT to OS X. Or does Ryan just have some spare time and wants to get some practice coding for OS X and is doing this on his spare time. I'm sure it gives Epic a good rapport with Mac users.
Of course it would be great news if Deus Ex made the jump to OS X too.

Ryan contracts with Epic and other companies (like the U.S. Army). He partakes in a number of side projects, one of which is the UTPG (or whatever they call themselves these days). UTPG is not Epic. It's separate entity with Epic's blessing. UT X falls under UTPG's jurisdiction. So it's not necessarily Epic wanting to port the game to OS X, it's an independant developer who's working with UTPG and the developer happens to ctranct with Epic.

This is great because I play Tactical Ops:AoT which still uses UT X. With the current beta, I have many performance issues which prevent me from playing a lot. Also, I hope the annoying mouse bugs are fixed.
