Has anyone else had the opportunity to play with Rise of Nations yet? Absolutely fantastic synthesis of Age of Empires/Civilization/Command and Conquer Generals/Risk

More important, any word if there is a port in th works? This is the type of game that will make me forego replacing my PowerBook 'Pismo' with another 'book and instead get a cheap PC to play this game!

If you haven't tried it yet, do so. Fantastic stuff.

just downloaded it at work... have a feeling it will make it to the mac since all the civ games have (bryan renolds worked on the civ series).

is it a 3d game? if not i doubt the requirements will be too high.

I hope it makes it soon. What's so wonderful is that the requirements are rather low: PIII-500mhz and a 16mb video card are the primary requirements.

I played it on a PIII-466 with a 32mb video card and it played very well, so I doubt there should be too many problems.

While the Civ series has always made it to the Mac, we've almost always lost out on the add-ons, expansion packs, and multiplayer aspects of those games. One of the most intriguing things about RON is the apparent amount of modding that is going to go on. The game is designed from the ground up to be customized, tweaked, and updated significantly. There's lots of room to grow with this one. Moreover, without the multiplayer abilities, it will be far less interesting of a game. Let's hope!

Unlikely:

REDMOND, Wash. - Aug. 29, 2000
Microsoft Corp. today announced that it has entered into an agreement with Big Huge Games Inc. (Big Huge), a developer of strategy-oriented computer games, that gives Microsoft the exclusive publishing and distribution rights to Big Huge Games-developed titles. In addition, Microsoft also announced it has made an equity investment in Big Huge.
But hey, who knows. We only had to wait, what, two years for AoE2?

Its not Bold's fault AOE isn't PC multiplayer. ANY game that uses microsoft's networking code can't talk to the mac version of the game.

This has been discussed before.
