I went over my friends house, and just out of curiosity I wanted to know how many FPS he got in JK2 on his 1 maybe 2 year old PC laptop. In the bespin level he got 65-70FPS when looking across the whole thing. Yet my mac only got about 30-40FPS. Both these lvls were empty as well. Yet when he plays UT2k3 he can not play at highest resolutions without lagging pretty badly even though my mac w/a Geforce 4Ti doesn't lag at 1600x1024. Does this show that JK2 is just a processor limited game? or what is going on here??

Well, jedi knight is based on the quake 3 engine and ut is based on the ut engine, different engines, different performance. Consider direct3d and opengl too.

If you're on a multiprocessor mac, try usng r_smp 1 in jedi knight, as it may support multiple processors.

UT2k3 was well ported. The performance is top notch, IMO. It runs fairly well on the GeForce 2 MX (surprising) but only when it works...for some reason I get freezes sometimes that force me to reboot the computer.

IIRC, the single player version of JK2 doesn't use dual processors, but the MP version does. It has something to do with the skeletal systems of the characters (see here for details from the guys who did the port--about 3/4 of the way down).

Most likely that is the difference that you're seeing between JK2 and UT2003.

Thanks for the replies fellas. Exa - When enabling smp in JK2 it screws up the game and won't properly work. Emailed company and they didnt know why. Oh, and Guy Incognito 2, I have the same exact problem as you with UT2k3. Emailed them about that as well. We were emailing each other back and forth, then he just kinda gave up on me I guess, and never replied again. lol.
I have a Dual 1ghz (Quicksilver) and not sure what he has, will ask later.

JK2 is very CPU-intensive in the single-player game. You didn't list the speeds of your friend's laptop or your Mac, but that's likely where the difference lies, at least with regards to JK2.
