Me neither. Too bad I can't use my beta account when it comes out. I still wish it ran better in X . C'mon Panther!

Hopefully OpenGL 2.0 will be ready before Panther goes gold.. I heard that the speed improvements will be around 5-15%

That would be awesome! Hopefully you are right. Anyways, I'll take whatever speed boost I can get at this point.

I don't get why Blizz crippled OS 9 support. The game ran like twice as well under the ol' OS... even if it's "dead," Blizz is still deterring people by making it super-slow.
Be happy.

Our OS9 support hasn't changed in any way with Warcraft III or the expansion. What are you referring to ?

OS 9 support is still in for Frozen Throne. I think the beta was X only so that they could keep the patches in sync with the pc version.

Ah, well in that case, never mind!

I guess I figured that since the beta was OS X only that the release would be as well. Glad I was proven wrong!
Be happy.

Rob

Is there any news on the OS X performance issues? Are they going to be addressed with the new expansion?

Thanks

Yea I have the same question. My Tibook plays the game quite well in X, but I have noticed that it does even better in 9. A lot of older macs seem to be able to play WC3 fine in 9 but not in X. Can anything be done about this????????? If Blizzard doing fix the problem all the people who bought the original and found that it did not play well on their iMac 800 or whatever are not going to buy the expansion. I think it should be worth it for blizzard to try to fix this problem!!!!

I laugh at these complaints at its speed in OS X. I run it on a 333MHz tray-load iMac. If it weren't for the fact that it is (in OS 9) playable and one of the best games I've ever played I'd have lost patience a long time ago.

I noticed in the official guide (I dunno what its called, but its linked to on the blizzard site and has complete stats tables, descriptions, etc) that there are a few units that are not actually in the game. Are those part of frozen throne? The bloodmage looks like an awesome unit... while the unit it summons (pheonix) seems over-powerful.

The phoenix right now is a horrible ultimate. It dies really quickly and doesn't do that much damage. I hope they make it stronger in a later patch.

I email blizzard about OS X performance and this is the replay I got:

___________,

CFM apps and apps which use Open GL via the Carbon API in Mac OS X are at a
bit of a handicap in terms of performance. This has to do with application
thread reentrance, thread priority and a few other issues Apple is still
addressing. We are always looking for performance wins, and will continue
to work with Apple to get Warcraft III performance up under Mac OS X. The
expansion should actually perform better than the game due to further code
optimizations. We will bring the game up to par with expansion performance
in a later update to the game.

With the iMac you also had a few other factors working against you. The
first was the lack of level 3 cache on the processor. The second factor was
a much more limited video card.

I hope this helps explain some of the performance issues you saw with the
iMac.

Subject: Mac OS X performance

I have a few questions about Mac OS X performance and would love a
few
honest answers. I used to own an iMac G4 800 with 512MB, and I could
never get WC3 to play well in OS 10.2.x. However, in OS 9 the game
would play just fine. I loved playing the game, but I got tired of
rebooting all the time...so I stopped playing. I recently bought a 1Ghz
Tibook for college and tried playing WC3 on it. The performance in OS X
is quite good now; however, I noticed that it still runs better in OS
9. I realize that OS X is a new OS and that you guys probably need a
little more practice coding for it. I also realize that Apple may need
to still fix a few things. Do you guys know if the expansion pack for
WC3 will provide any better performance under OS X than the original
did? Have you guys been working on this problem or is it just a problem
with the OS that apple needs to work out. You have no idea how much I
would like to know the answer to this question. I really hope you guys
have straightened out the performance issues. If you have not you
really should raise the system requirements for OS X. It really does
take a new PowerMac or PowerBook to play the game in OS X. However, in
OS 9 the minimum requirements seem to work just fine. Thanks you guys.

A blizzard fan,
