I was looking through the MacMAME options and came across a drop down for acceleration or some such.

The only option available is the built in software renderer.

Does anyone know of a plug-in to enable the use of my PCI Radeon?

This is an 8600 with a G3/400/1MB L2

Games runs decently but I'd like the extra kick if I can get it...

There is a OpenGL plugin in the MacMAME page that used to work fine, but in recent releases it seems to be a bit broken.

I hope someone updates it, someday.

The page says that the plug-in uses overlay files to create various cool effects.

I don't use overlay files so did it do anything else, like improve emulation performance?

The other plug-ins seem to be OS 9 only

As I said, the OpenGL plugin is somehow broken with current versions of MacMAME, and it do not offer any advantages, inf act I think it makes MacMAME run slower.

That's not quite right. It works fine with games that don't require any rotation.

In addition, performance is not the main use for it. Rather, it allows for correct aspect-ratio scaling and the use of overlay effects to mimic low-resolution RGB monitors. There is also an option to add a bit of "curvature" to the image. Select the OpenGL plugin in MacMAME and click on the options button for the plugin to adjust some of the parameters.

OK thanks for the clarification, much appreciated.

But a bit of added performance with OpenGL should be desirable

Is there any word on when this renderer will be available for OS X? I have been using MacMame on OS X ever since it was available and I still have yet to see any renderer but Software.

It's been available for OSX for some time now.

Is there any way to speed the program up? I'm using the OpenGL renderer, I have the (current) best specs for a Mac tower, and some games still chug.

Well, don't use the OpenGL renderer. In my machine it slow down the performance.

But I need the OpenGL renderer to make the game look nice. It's weird though, since OpenGL MacMAME ran really fast on my 500 MHz Cube on OS 9.
