These games are on all other f-ing platforms, why not ours? Nintendo Gamecube can't have a a vast advantage in "market share" vs. the Mac market. I think Jobs could really make signifigant progress in getting most games ported to the Mac if he bought Transgaming. They have developed a software suite that allows the porting process to be MUCH easier. Especially with that troublesome DirectX technology that is usually a roadblock to Mac ports.

If nothing else maybe Apple should do like Microsoft did with Bungie/Halo...buy the Game company that is developing Matrix online and make it exclusive to the Mac first and PC last.

I hate to tell you this, but most Mac porting companies already had enough experience and code to handle porting PC games over easily before Transgaming came along, they don't need Transgaming stuff. Transgaming just got the bright idea to sell what they had. I'm pretty sure nowadays, DirectX tech isn't a roadblock anymore.

One of the porters can correct me if I'm wrong - there's a couple that hang around here.

Usually the roadblock to Mac ports is politics and money, not technical.

So you will let other people decide if a game or movie is good enough for you?

If something is universally panned, that's usually raises flags in my head. Using reviews to help decide game purchases is NOT a bad idea. But if there's a game I'm thinking of getting and it doesn't get great reviews, I'll rent it. 9 times out of 10 I end up agreeing with the reviews. And after playing the game, I agree with a lot of the negative feedback in the various reviews. The player model and non butt whomping animation isn't that great. If you ever see Ghost running or climbing a ladder, you know what I mean. The playermodels could have used some help too. I agree it isn't a must have, but I think it's worth a rental.

If something is generally regarded as being crap I won't waste my money on it. This is why people read reviews, which normally tend to make up large portions of all those games magazines which sell to gamers the world over. Of course, ultimately you should make the decision yourself, but it'd be retarded to ignore the reviews (I would make a smartass comment, but you're not worth it).

Thrust me you don't want to play "Enter The Matrix". The game is absolute crap... outdated gfx, boring gameplay, It can be completed in 2h. You have 2 characters to choose from, but those characters have exactly the same moves, so no replay value.

I wouldn't mind it; not every game has to spectacular... And that Hulk game looks silly but fun.

I'll "thrust" myself not to be led away from good games from silly reviews. Sometimes a critic is right, but there are many times that they're WRONG. Like a2daj said, rent the thing if you're feeling precarious. Then discover for your own. Most people in here that don't like the game are saying so because of what they heard from friends.

The worst thing to do is to try to defend the Macintosh against a conglomeration of PC users. Think about this: you own a Mac and you're proud of it. What difference does it make to someone else?

The Macs are NOT for games and PCs are. That's not going to change. PC users bitch about how much better their computers are because they can play games. Whoopdee-doo. Can their computers do anything else? No.

You're correct. As an example, Westlake has ported many DirectX-based games using our own internal DX-like library. Unless it's Quake or Unreal-based, it probably uses DirectX in some form. EverQuest, Tiger Woods 2k3 and Max Payne use DirectX 8, Tony Hawk 2 used DX7, etc.

Additionally, our library covers most of the Win32 API - the event loop handling, the file calls, and a bunch of other stuff. This means that we don't have to futz too much with rewriting the original PC code. You'll find that Blizzard actually takes a similar approach with their Mac titles.
