I was wondering if there are any others out there like me who would love to see the return of Hellcats over the Pacific and Leyte Gulf. I know, I know, you "fast twitch" gamers are probably laughing right now but there are a lot of us (I hope) that are not able to handle the manual dexterity requirments of modern air fighter games. For us, playing HotP and LG was a truly enjoyable experience. I still remember the wonderful dogfights that lasted 20 or 30 minutes and the awe I felt when I shot down the enemy plane with my machine gun. Or the wonderful thrill of making a succesful aircraft carrier landing and earning my LT stripes.
My friends and I cannot handle the "heads up" displays of newer games. Or the overwhelming number of options and key commands. We grew up with the Mac and now that we have powerful G4's with OS X we're hoping that some company out there will see that there's a market for those of us with "simpler" tastes.
Is there any company out there that would be interested in developing these games again? MacSoft? ID?
I hope so.
Jonathan

I second that. I have never played the above games, but I think they are really old right? I mean, I think I remember them back when I was flying in Chuck Yeager's Advance Flight Simulator!
Anyway, some simple WWII flight simulators would be nice. If you have a powerful G4 why don't you try WWII Online?

I would love to see a WW II flight sim for the Mac. Years ago I tried the MS fighter sim on a Pentium 166 MHz with a Voodoo 1 card and loved it. The sound and graphics were so nice (way beter than Hellcats that I loved so much) At the time I was looking forward to get "Screaming Demons over Europe" by the same Parker that had made Hellcats.
Much as I love Hellcats and to tricks like flying (upside down) under the deck on the japanese carrier Hellcats is really to dated to be a commercial port/update. In windows there are several very nice WWII FS to shoose from. They alos have low hardware requirements (700 Mhz pentiums) so the current G4s and even some older computers ought to be able to handle them.

Well, I wouldn't expect a company would port them directly. They ARE very old. But, it seems like it was a great game with lots of fans and something like that should be made again - I hope.

Ahh.... Hellcats.... Soooo many hours spent playing this great game
F/A-18 Hornet 2.0 was the tops also
Good thing I've got my old 8100 here, it's a games machine only now. Think I'll take a long lunch and sink a few carriers...

Is this rock and roll, or
a form of state control?

It is a massive multiplayer online world recreating WWII. You can fly planes, tanks, drive trucks, be a soldier, or join the navy. They have a ranking system and player hierarchy. The game supposedly had a lot of problems early on but developers should have fixed them by now.
Anyway, you can fly WWII planes here and it is supposed to be modeled to a high level of realism. If you have the high hardware requirements check this game out:

This is exactly what i am NOT looking for. That game seems so massive and complicated that I couldn't even find the link to get started. Ridiculous! All I'm looking for is a simple WWII flight sim like HotP and Leyte Gulf.

Searching the games forum and would like to add my 2 cents.
I remember Hellcats well.
Once again.........some of us would really appreciate a easy to fly WWII Flight Sim that would work with OSX, and not require the reflexes of a 13 year old.

I think it's a neat idea... however, loving older games myself (prince of persia, vette!, etc) sometimes the easiest solution is to buy an older machine just to play these games. It's cheap and not too shabby. If you get an older PB, you can hide it out of the way as well.
