I downloaded it from here http://www.cronos.ne.jp/~y2510/cgi/g...rm&lang=en

After disabling automatic expanding from Safari, I manually had to unzip it, zip it again, then tar before it would work. Don't know why.

Well but it is not working. When I double click on the executable nothing happens. Could someone else download this program and tell me if it works? Thanks...

You'll need to get a dump of the PS1's *actual* ROMs. This means that you need to have bought a PS1 to do this. Otherwise, it is known as pirating.

In order to get a ROM dump you'll need specialised circuitary to do it and a PC.

Thanks, I'll try to find the ROMs online. I do have a PS1 with a bunch of games and specifically I want to get the ROM for a game I already have and paid $50 for, RTK VI. So should be perfectly legal.

Currently I'm wasting hours trying to finish a SNES game, RTK IV which I also have and never finished years ago (damn battery on the cartridge died, tried to replace it but it would come lose and erase my games, finally quit). I using SNES9x emulator. Works great.

what's the best ps1 emulator? I have a real copy of a game called "Pro Evolution Soccer 2" for ps1 but it only works on PAL systems, not on USA systems, so i need an emulator to play it. How good is the emulator?

I thought Virtual Game Station was quite good, but it has been discontinued and only available if you happened already to have it.

Plus, you can only run it under OS 9, no classic.

If you can get Flarestorm to work, it's great.. I am playing FF7 with it.

You can get the retail Virtual Game station from a file sharing thingy such as limewire. I don't think it's illegal if it's been discontinued. I live in Scotland, and in a big store called john lewis, i saw a copy of CVGS for £10 in the Mac section! Shows how things get around!

Finally got Flarestorm working (kinda) with FF7 - seem to have lost most of my other PS1 games...

I was thinking about the whole issue here, and wondered what would happen if you used a PS2 ROM with it - obviously no machine can emulate the PS2, but if it could use the better rendering for PS1 games that the PS2 has, it might save some extra programming than enhancing the default PS1 render...

Hmmm. If only i could program...

You need ROM and CD. The ROM you need is just the IO dump from the EPROM of a Playstation - you can find hundreds out there, but, well, you know what PMs are?

Just choose the CD in the CD-ROM utility and it should fire on up. As I've said - performance is pretty jittery, but is playable on my 600 iBook, would think a G4/G5 would get it nice and smooth. It is also a tad buggy, and you can expect a fair few crashes from time to time.

I read that the Flarestorm guy is backwards engineering the ROM function ala VGS so you don't need to go searching for a PS1 ROM - but will take a hefty amount of time, so I reckon we may be short on bug fixes for a while. It's an Open Source project, so developments on the PC side should also bring developments on our side - though even a lot of the stuff now on the PC is not available yet here. If anyone wants to help the guy out, please feel free - we want you to!
