I noticed that the version of the full version of UT 2k3 that is out is showing as 2225, which is also the latest patch for the windows version.

However, one of the changes for the windows version is that the CD is not required to run the game. The Mac version does require the second CD to run. I wonder why they chose not to include that fix/update for us.. It's a pain to have to swap cd's (I also just got Jedi Knight and it wants it's cd to run too).

I did try making an image of the cd then mounting that, but it still looked for the actual cd.

I mean, come on, it loaded 2gb of stuff when it installed and it has to access the cd too?

It's for copy protection. The game for PCs has been around for 16 months. People probably won't copy/share/warez a game that old.

Because the game has just been released for the Mac, people are more likely to copy it from a friend instead of buy it. While there still is the option of burning a CD from an image, I guess it does prevent some form of copying.

That's my $0.02 anyhow.

Yeah... I bought the game, and I don't like to use the real disks in fear of scratching them. so i burned them. Those works, but I also made DMGs of them and they did not work!

One can image the disk using Toast. Just save it as a disk image, then lock the resulting file. This image still took up over 600 megs on the hard drive though. Rather than waste that space on my drive, I just carry around a copy. The original is safely at home.

An interesting thing happened this evening. I was the sole Powerbook among a group of Dells at a lan party. At the beginning of the evening, everyone had their cd in the drive. When I tried connecting to the server, I found I could not because I was the only one running the 2225 version. Because of me, everyone else upgraded and was now cd free. Except for me. Oh the irony.

Yes, the toast disk image works but the disk copy image does not. In the end, I just went with the physical disk. Hopefully, we will get the no cd patch in the next release.
