Hi I have just finished LOD in nightmare and I'm playing in hell now.

I am a level 63 barbarian and I am finding it pretty hard and
unrewarding (I thought I would be finding plenty of cool items in
hell ).

I was wondering if you guys had any hints for me.

One more thing. I was wondering whether I should sink my points into
whirlwind or beserk. Which is better?

I am currently something like this. 18 sword masteries, 12 stone skin
10 natural ressistance. 10 leap atack, 1 whirlwind and 1 beserk.

Any hints?

Both serve their purposes. For any physical immune mobs, Berzerk is priceless. For major damage dealing to multiple foes, whirlwind is great. Maxed out Berzerk with a really quick and powerful sword can be devastating.

One thing you could do is a bunch of nightmare Meph runs to try and get decent stuff. With the 1.09 patch, it helps to have some Magic Find equipment.

If you have any friends that play Diablo II, I would recommend playing cooperatively with them. The more people, the better the drops. It sounds like you're playing in single player mode so if you wanted to play multiplayer with that specific barb you'd have to play either Open Battle.net games or direct TCP/IP games. I'd recommend not playing with strangers right away, although you will usually find plenty to play with. It usually only takes one jerk to ruining a good day of gaming, particularly the first time out.

If your looking for great items, it's all about online play and trading unfortunatly. I am also a single player type, lvl 64 barb, your template is not the greatest as described by most of the online stragety sites, but if you are happy...hell with them, it's all about what is fun for you.

a friend of mine had a similar template, I had him send me his character to my windows machine and I downloaded a character editor to move the points he had around (no adding more or giving and edge, just fix his mistakes)...he is having a much more fun time.

a couple of things from your character I see, WAAAAY to much in leap attack, it is to unreliable, but great in getting out of sticky situations, about 3 or 4 to much in natural resistance, by level 7 it only gives you a 2 or 3 % increase. what you do from there is your choice... read some online stragety guides, they can help and give you many good ideas.. I made a whirlwind barb, but made sure I put 5 points in beserk to handle those "immune to physical" creatures that can be a serious thorn in your side.

thanx for the hints

Could you point me to the charectar templates you are talking about. In the
strategy guide that came with the game
they only had some for the assasin and the
druid,

I admitidly don't have much expreince
with diablo II this barbarian is my first
one.

I was doing baal runs he is pretty easy
to kill. I also use ali babas talon which
gives me extra magic/ gold find and a unique ring which gives me aroung 39%
magic find. He almost always drops a
unique/set item but they are never swords
, primal helms (the stuff I wan't ) I
got a few good belts and gloves though
(a unique demon hide sash and a unique
shark skin glove. Can't remember there
names),

I will try mephisto runs and see what I get.

Acording to the strategy guide in that came with the battle chest it says I should only stay in night mare uptil level 70. What do you guys think? Is it
too much or too little ?

I find the "cow runs" very helpful in leveling up.

I kind of gathered from here that I well get
cool items by trading so I went to open
battel.net and I was bitterly disapointed.

You know how many freaking hacked players
out there? It's just stupid. This guy gave me
a sword that had +49 to all barbarian skills.
I had never seen anything like that on the
battel.net website. When I asked him where
he got it he said he made it . Go figures

Any way I have started from scratch on battle.net
proper. In 1 day I got my seld a lvl 20 druid
(I am going elmemtal/ summoning druid)

And have already found pretty cool stuff

Thnx for the advise guys.

Hi

The amount of expeirnece you get is calculated from the difference between you and the monsters you kill. In order to lvl up quickly you need to be where your lvl is as close to that of the monsters as possible...

I would not enter hell before lvl 70+ start doing "bloodruns" for xp and Meph runs for items...

Bloodruns: Take the waypoint in Harrogath to Frigid Highlands and start running down into the bloody foothills, kill everything there, and when you eventually reach town, restart the game and do it again... here you will lvl very quickly!

Meph runs: Take wp in Kurast to Durance lvl 2 and find Meph, kill him and restart the game and do it again and again and again ;-).. here you will find pretty good items (no elite uniques though, but still....)

When you are in town try to type "Players x" where x is a number between 2 and 8, this (in single player) with simmulate that there are more people in the game, thus increasing the amount of experinece you get, increase item drops, but allso make monsters tougher, so be carefull ;-)

/tterp
