Any suggestions for a long time (and pretty good) AOE2 player?

Also, do I need to reboot to OS 9 to get it installed on my X machine?

So, install the game in classic and then apply the patch basically.

hehe.. well?

Here are some newbie strategies.

For terran:
Build Battle Cruisers, Bring Along Detectors as well

For Protoss:
Build Carriers, bring along Observers

For Zerg:
Build Hydralisks, Mutalisks, bring some overlords (I blow at zerg)

This is how most newbies build.

Hmm, I mostly play Protoss. My advice is, don't go overboard with Photon Cannons, they are pretty good all around, but they can block your entrances so you can't get out. Try not to keep them out in the open, but them behind your exits, and build them so all their fire power is concentrated in the center (like a half circle). Put pylons in front, that will help. I would also mix in some other units, a few zealots won't hurt, helps distract the attacker from killing off your pylons. Also reavers are absolutely amazing against any sort of ground attackers.. especially close range units.. put them where they can't easily be killed.

^ so that is basic defense.

How about offence?

Well, Carriers are cheap, most people will frown upon you (if you aren't a newb), besides they are rather slow and ineffecient at targeting multiple units. The solution? Well, combine them with other things.

A good combination for an attack force would be:
12 Carriers
6 Arbiters (to cloak them, for recall, and for the stasis field)
2 Observers
6 Scouts
6 Reavers.

Keep your reavers in a nice group at your base, once you have broken through the enemies main defenses, or enough to get an arbiter through so that it can survive for 9 seconds, get an arbiter to an important place, and recall your reavers from your base. This will wreak absolute devastation on your enemy. Get your air support over top of them as soon as possible. You might also consider recalling 6 or so zealots to help distract the enemy from killing off your reavers.. but otherwise zealots are pretty much weak and useless, but good bait.

Good players will also use their templars a lot. Psionic storm is amazing at damaging, even destroying large masses of units.

Hmm, the game play in StarCraft is very, very quick. It's about reflexive strategies, who can make the first attack.. many, many things. It is a very differnet game that AOE2.. way faster.

Oh, and go overboard on harvesting.. there will be times when you need to spend huge amounts of resources to recover from an attack, or to prepare for another offensive strike. Don't get caught without enough minerals or gas.

You can find strategy guides all over the net. However, after playing 1,500+ games of SC, tech rushes will almost always work if you get good at them. By that I mean, muta rush, lurker rush, Dark Temp rush, etc. Don't be a turtle, everyone hates a turtle (turtle is most likely a terran, who blocks himself into his base, gets 25 tanks, and just sits there). Also, if you are terran playing BGH, if you rush tanks witha dropship, you can place that tank on a persons ledge just above their minerals if they are the top left or the bottom right positions. Diversify your offense. Don't just get all goons, or all zeals, or all lings, because every unit has its strengths and weaknesses. If you are terran or zerg, watch out for psi storm, that **** is deadly and will eat you up. Also, workers are your friends (drones, scvs), get a ton of them. The faster your income is coming in, the faster you can pump guys. If you are zerg, you should have around 8 hatches once the game is around 10 mins in. If you are protoss, you should have around 8 gates/starports. The key in the game is to be able to recoup your offense asap once it all dies out. Don't forget to expand if you can. In longer games, those who own the map own the game. There's a few suggestions off the top of my head. My bnet nick is Mike32dvd if you ever wanna play.

Haha, you barely get up a single BattleCruiser in most games on Bnet, a game rarely lasts that long. BattleCrusiers are so easy to take out to, and they are expensive. I thought I was newbie, no offence.

yea, mass air in general can be a bad idea, as every race can defend pretty well against it. Terran=goliaths, Zerg=hydra with dark swarm, devoirs, Protoss=psi storm, goonies, corsairs. Zerg air I think is the most effective, if used WITH ground troops to back them up.
