I'm currently a PC user that wants to switch to a mac. I'm just curious on the gaming end. There are a lot of games available for Windows and Linux, but lack Mac support. Since OS X is run on a *nx system (Darwin), could I run those games that are meant to be on linux, in OS X ?

This is true for any game that comes already compiled - so you could not run the Linux version of Quake 3 under Mac OS X.
However many Linux games are distributed in source form, and many of those will compile under OS X. You will have to have the developer tools and X window client installed, but both of those are available from Apple. In fact, the rumors are that X Windows support will be included in the next major release of OS X, Panther.
Are there specific games you're looking to play? Many major titles available for PCs do make it to the Mac, but after a significantly delay.

Well, I won't be getting rid of my PC. The mac I will be getting will be a laptop. I was just curious if it would run any games that aren't "supported" on mac. You know, maybe when I'm in class or something
The games I would intend to play on it (which I play on my PC) are...
Quake 3 Arena (I know is supported)
Return To Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory (the one I was concerned about)
That's about all I play.
