Apparently they were expecting very very heavy traffic so they asked Akamai to be in charge of the DLs

Done downloading, the file was 315 MB in size. It's a TAR file and is currently untarring and estimated time until that is done is 9 minutes.

I will be running this on a PowerBook G4 1 GHz with L3 cache, 768 MB RAM, 60 GB HDD, and ATI Radeon 9000 Mobility with 64 MB DDR VRAM.

From what I've read, using Akamai's premium service for new releases is standard fare for about the first day until mirrors start showing up. If you want to download the game quickly and right when it's first released, pay the $6. If you can wait for the free download, go ahead.

Oh great, if I had known that I could have waited a week or more... from what I have seen so far from playing it for an hour, I don't like it.

If someone has downloaded this I can put it on one of my servers for FTP download (for a limited time). If anyone has it and wants to upload it PM me and I'll give you the IP to FTP into.

Going to Grab that G5 when it is available. But the requirements to run Americas Army on a Mac are ludicrous if it is intended as a recruitment tool.

Most Mac people I know don't own a G4 with those specs, and the funny thing is that I played this over a year ago on a aged PIII/933 and it ran super.

Well at 5 bucks a pop and high specs they should recoup in about oh, 20 years or so...shot themselves in the foot on this one.

Me too sense...

Anyone else having trouble un-taring it? Stuffit is quitting with an internal error. I get the America's Army file, but it quits with an error:

Failed to enter Entry: Can't find file for package 'T-UI'

I thought it was free, except, $6 if you DL it from their server? Didn't we go over this, or am I wrong about that?

Just in case anyone cares, I'm running it on a 12 inch PB w/ 640 Mb of RAM and it seems to run fairly well on the default settings.

I'm having a bitch of a time finding a game to play with people, though. If I do find one, it just makes me sit in spectator mode until the game is finished. I can't even move around to see the action.

PJW,

sometimes when you are in spectator mode, you can click the mouse and you will follow other players - it doesn't always work though.

I got a valid, working download from macgamefiles.com but it took a while. Like 3 hours. Felt like I was back on dial-up service.

1.
I am having trouble get 36 out of 40 on the firering range. The most I have gotten is 35 .

2.
It plays pretty well on my 12" PB with 640 MB, but it plays a bit better on my G4 733 Geforce 2MX 32 mb). It might be like because it is on a slightly bigger screen, or maybe it is better optimised for the Geforce 2 .

3.
It it not like Tactical-Ops at all. NO more running around like a rabit on speed. The maps are pretty cool.

I've completed the first round of training, but when I go to try the infantry training or anything beyond that, and I select a map to log in to, I get a message saying that authentication server might be down, and I can't get in. Very frustrating

That happened to me just now
I think it is the actual server, might not be an official one.

It's a know issue with 1.7, they are working on a fix with the 1.9 update.

Just look at the games available in the list in game and stick with the un official servers, they seem to work just fine.
