Huge UT2K3 Issues...

I've got quite an issue with UT2K3.
First off I'm running a Dual G4 1.0GHz, 64MB ATI Raedon, and 768DDR RAM. Latest OS version, 10.2.6 if I remember correctly.
So the installation when perfectly fine... I installed it into it's default location.
I go to run the app and it opens, shows the splash screen, the screen disappears, and the icon fades from the dock as if the program just closed.
No error messages, no incompatiblity errors, not even an "Unexpectedly quit" message. The program just closes.
I did a bit of searching, and apparently there was supposed to be an issue with some of the installers, however, I never had a problem with installation. I gave the install patch a try just as MacSoft suggested, however it still didn't solve my problem.
Considering the $50 I had to shell out for this I'm a wee bit pissed to say the least.
I've scowered the internet looking for an answer or a reason. I only found one person with the same problem, who apparently trashed it and reinstalled again and it apparently worked... But I've tried 3 times now with no success.
Please let me know if you have heard of, have had, or know how to fix this issue.
Thanks,
Froggysan.

I have the same problem as you - with the same computer. A Dual 1.00 ghz Quicksilver. Except I have a Geforce 4 Ti instead. I have tried contacting the company and they just stopped responding after I stumped them.... Try download america's army from http://www.macgamefiles.com I can not play this game either, and it jams in the same exact manner. If you also have this problem then we really have something weird going on here. Oh, america's army is based off of the ut2k3 engine as well. So it must just not like certain dual 1ghz quicksilvers or something....

I had this same probelm on my graphite g4, dp 800, geforce 4 ti and 1.5 gig ram. Let me guess, you had the demo installed befor the game. junk the game, the demo if you still have it, and both the demo and the games support folders in yer ~/library/application support folder, then reinstall the game and you should be good to go.

Yes I do have the demo still there...
Well that'll be interesting... When I get home today I'll try trash them both, the support files to boot, and try it again...
Yay for yet another glacial install process...

Well I deleted all the files and re-installed ut2k3. Now the game will always launch, unlike before it was quit randomy sometimes. But the game still jams when trying to play. I think it may be a memory leak, because when I do top with ut2k3 still running after it jams it claims to be using 1215mb of RAM. That seems just a little bit too much memory for one game if you ask me.

I did have the demo installed. I'm going to try and trash the files and start again.

So has anyone else got a suggestion?
I started searching through the package contents for any sort of error logs or anything and I can't seem to locate anything...
Ideas folks?

I take it you have already trashes the preferences file. This may be unrelated but in Freedom force the only thing that remedied the "Unexpectedly Quit" situation was trashing an options.dat file found in the Users/Library/Application Support/Freedom Force/Options.dat
There may be a similar options.dat file in that same location for your game. I would trash it first. Then if anything else related to your game is found in the Application Support location I would advise trashing it and reinstalling the software.
Good Luck

While searching around for a fix, I found this thread on MacSerialJunkie.com which addresses the Ut2003 startup issue. They speak of manually copying certain files from the CDs, unstuffing them, than putting them into the unreal program. It appears to work, but I have yet to actually try it and probably won't for quite a while. Anyhow, read the thread and try it out.

Oh, and the guy who came up with the solution had the full retail CDs, so his probably was not with a bootleged copy, but with the real deal. (In case anyone was wonderign)

There is an update that fixes the installer issues, with crashing and not copying/installing all files. I was having the same problems, this updated installer works great now.

I did (the first time), then i restarted into pather and installed (it installed more..28xxMB, but still was missing files). I also came up with the same method of getting the missing files (extracting from cd), and got a working copy. So when you launch UT, and/or get an error, look in the crash log and you will see the files its complaining about.
After i downloaded the updated installer i reinstalled again and it installed the app with all files and correct size.

It's a bad second CD...
I installed the game, only used my friends Disc Two instead of mine...
No problems...
One of the files is bad on the CD... the one that deals with the XGame, XWeapons et cetera.
I'm taking the box and the CDs back to the retailer that I bought it from, Compucentre... and they'll prolly replace it.
I'd recommend that anyone having this problem attempt to break open the Disc Two, IE: view the hidden folder... and attempt to unstuff the file called Xfiles or something like that... if it works, than it's another issue... but if the file won't unstuff then the disc is bad....
