Just from a technical point of view - Jedi Knight 2 and RTCW work on my Pismo under X, but not in 9! When I start them, I cannot get past the typical "yellowish screen." Then freeze. :-(
What could my system be missing? Everything else, Quake 3, HMFAKK2 play just fine under 9?!

Thanks! Regards,
PB.

After messing 30 minutes on Apple Update site... I checked with google: http://www.macnn.com/news.php?id=13610
http://download.ati.com/drivers/radeon-0204.hqx
This is the most recent one I found - is that okay? (though I'm sure my drivers are updated - hm...)

No success - I also tried with the ATI Updater on the RTCW CD. But: Could this be a problem of Open GL(-Updater)??? I couldn't run the Installer on the CD, because I have 9.2.2 and it specifically wanted an OS between 8.1 and 9.1! (!)

To make things easier, you should start from scratch. I mean by formatting everything and reinstall OS X and OS 9 then go to Software Update to make sure you're up to the date.

I would recommend making sure you have the most up-to-date: Game Sprocket, Net Sprocket (something like that..haven't been in Classic territory for awhile), OpenGL extensions, and Video Driver.

Do you use anything other than mouse/keyboard? Do you use the apple mouse/keyboard?
If you have excess peripherals, try unplugging them to see if they are creating an issue.
Have you tried using Extension Manager and booting the extended Mac set?
I highly doubt this will help, but try rebuilding the desktop - it sometimes fixes very odd problems. Option + Command on startup, I believe.
PRAM zapping should not affect this area..

Anyway, I just spouted off mostly general OS 9 troubleshooting directions, so good luck

edit:// if the above doesn't work you may try 'downgrading' to 9.2/9.1 if you have an install CD. I think there is an option to just reinstall so you don't lose the prefs/extensions/control panels you've installed.
