Hey all,

Could someone recommend a good FPS for my Macs. I just want good online play, so I'm looking for a farely popular game. My machine specs are TiB 667 and a G3 450.

I did a bit of searching on my own, but it's too difficult to tell what's still popular and what's not. Anyway, thanks for any suggestions. Oh, and I'd really prefer if the game ran on OS X.

Unreal Tournament, still worth having OS 9 installed.

I love Return to Castle Wolfenstein, due to the different character classes you get in online play (Soldiers, Medics, Engineers, etc.). These classes connect you to your teammates more, because you depend on each other (medics heal and revive players, engineers blow up walls and doors, soldiers have the cool weapons, and lieutenants pass out ammo, etc.).

One thing I can't stand about the game though, is a bug that causes sound to drop out when there's a lot of action going on. You have to stop what you're doing, and type in a command to get sound back. On certain maps with lots of players and lots of action, this happens frequently.

bind a key to it, so it's quick, for example /bind x s_stop 1

then you just hae to hit x every time your sound goes out, instead of stopping and typing it in.

Excellent game. The carbon patch isn't bad either, and now even Ryan Gordon is working on the patch (who knows how long it will take though). AFAIK, UT is still pretty popular but I haven't played it online in a while.
#macnn: where all the real action is at.

Thanks for the tip re: binding the /s_stop command in RTCW. That made things a lot more bearable!

MOHAA Spearhead is a great multi-player online game. It gives a kinda Saving Private Ryan take on the FPS genre (complete with the Normandy invasion scene in the single player mode that will make you sweat like a pig till you get through it). The only problem is that it is most definitely hard on the hardware.

You can dl the demo for it and check it out for yourself along with the UT2003 demo. If you turn down the eye-candy it should be OK.
