The requirements for PC are a 800 mhz processor. I would figure you'd need something similar to that, and a graphics card with 32 MB RAM. The requirements for it may be quite high. The require ments for Eilete Force 2 are a 733 processor. So I'd expect HALO to be about the same.

Halo uses some things that are dependent on the Graphics Card too...

I'm lookin at at least a 128mb card if you're planning to use it with OS X. Of course, you will still be getting bad fps due to the OS.

Gee, I wish they would actually port it over to OS 9 instead of OS X cuz we all know how bad games run on OS X.

1) OpenGL is more complete in OS X.
2) OpenGL is now unsupported in OS 9.
3) OpenGL gets yet another speed boost in OS X 10.3.

OpenGL is actually quite a bit faster in OS X than OS 9 despite what you and some people say. You're not getting bad fps 'due to the OS'...you're getting bad fps due to the devs not doing a good job porting certain games to Mac.

But go on...keep believing that nonsense you just posted.

Well, there MUST be a reason 90% of the games I own run better under OS 9. And on a DP machine no less!
Be happy.

jk2...really? Not sure about that.
war3...I'll give you this one.
UT...unsupported release...very little work has been put into that port

Come back again when Ryan Gordon releases his version of UT.

I must admit Warcraft 3 is a lost hope. It's not an OpenGL problem and Blizzard can't seem to nail the problem.

Are there any other games that are slower in OS X than OS 9?

Oh shut up please, you don't speak for everyone. You're truly ignorant if that is what you think.

A few:

- WC3
- UT
- Jedi Outcast
- Diablo 2
- Myst 3
- Age of Kings
- Baldur's Gate 2
- The Sims

I can't speak for newer games, since I gave up on Mac gaming about a year ago and bought a 3.06 GHZ P4 (which has since more than satisfied all my gaming needs; I suggest any "hardcore" or "serious" Mac gamers do the same, since you'll get more optimized software with fewer delays). Also, aren't most new games OS X-only? I love OS X, don't get me wrong. My experience has just been that OS 9 allows games to hog resources more effectively than X, leading to higher performance

D2's OpenGL performance in the upcoming 1.10 is improved and is on par with OS 9 now. D2's level loading has always been faster in OS X than 9.

UT...like I said...unsupported quick port. Yet level loading have been tremendously faster under X than 9. Wait until Ryan Gordon releases his port...the tables will turn.

Dunno about the other games. Jedi Knight is as fast on OS X than OS 9 here.

Not all games are faster under 9 than X. It just so happens that hybrid games were mostly tuned for OS 9. And games that were originally ported to 9 and then ported to X were quick and dirty ports that also suffered from 'mostly tuned for OS 9'-itis.

Now that games are ported directly to OS X, game performance will be better.

Like I said...wait and see what Ryan Gordon's done and you'll be eating your words.

Also it is because a lot of OS 9 games use RAVE and not OpenGL.

Forget about running Halo on a Mac before 2005. I have Halo running on a 3Ghz PC with a Radeon 9700 Pro card (15% slower than 9800) and the framerates suck even at 1200x1024. The code is just crap and unoptimized even on the PC.

Try turning off shaders and particles, it might not look as pretty with the torch off but it's perfectly playable!

Save yourself the trouble. For the cost of a new video card you could buy an Xbox with Halo and still have enough money left over to build a time machine and travel back 2 years when this game was still cool.

While it doesn't run well compared to modern PC games, it still runs acceptably on my PC 2500+ with Radeon 8500LE. Granted that's still in G5 performance territory but it DOES run.

And it's possibly the most fun game I've ever played...the graphics may not be as nice as some games but time doesn't dull fun.
