This kind of game is very graphic-intensive but the system requirement at Asypr site is way lower than I've expected.

System Requirements:
  • Mac OS X 10.2.6 or later
  • PowerMac 1GHz or faster
  • 733 MHz or faster recommended
  • 256MB RAM
  • 8X CD-ROM drive
  • AGP 3D Graphics Acceleration required (minimum of 32MB ATI Radeon or NVidia GeForce 2 series card)

Possible? Or is this another bull created by Asypr and i5works (see SimCity 4's System Requirement)?

Yippee!

The sad thing is that by the time this comes out (January Aspyr says) I'll probably have my gaming PC fully built

I really need a modern RTS game and trying to **** with Red-Alert ain't working too well.
Too bad Tiberian Sun won't come (My favorite game of all time)

Oh and it's only what, 6 months late?
Better than 2 years like with Command and Conquer original

Yea, I got excited about this one too. Just hope it runs decently on OS X (ie, not like Warcraft).

Warcraft 3 runs just fine for me

Ah such a pretty game. Will have to get it when it gets here....IF my machine can handle it. Seeing that SimCity4 doesn't run well on ANY enduser machine out now, I find it hard to believe the same for this. At least Generals ran fine on pcs above 1gig or so.

'Scuse the kinda stupid question, but is this a sort of Starcraft-like strategy game?

Yes but it's more of RPS.

C&C was inspired by original Warcraft

Actually, I believe Dune or whatever it was called came out first, and then C&C came out, and it was either C&C or Dune that inspired Warcraft. I thought WC2 came out the same year C&C came out, so it had to be Dune that inspired both games, I think.

I'm not certain about the above, but I do now that employees from Blizzard have gone on the record saying that C&C or Dune did "inspire" them.

Edit: Thinking about it more, it's entirely possible that there was cross-inspiration going on between both companies, making the "WC inspired C&C" statement correct. But I believe I am correct in my assertion that Westwood was the first to introduce an RTS game, and then Blizzard followed up with their own.

And don't forget an even earlier inspiration:

Ancient Art of War from Broderbund.

Man I loved playing that game on my 68K Mac.

Dune 2 was the first RTS. Warcraft was the second. Command & Conquer was the third - just.

dune was a adventure, dune 2 was the first real rts game.

next one was warcraft, then c&c and warcraft 2 (warcraft 2 was a lot better then c&c)

beside of this, is real a great news to have a hope for c6c generals for the mac. hope this will be "gold" version with the first expansion pack included.

the last game i would need for our lan parties would be counterstrike.

I ordered this game from the Apple store last year.

My order status as of today says it will "ship on or before 2/2/04". When I ordered it, the store said it would be shipping in January.

Has anybody received their copy yet?

I am dying to play this game, and hope it will play well on a 1ghz Powerbook 17". The 1Ghz minimum requirement scares me!

I still have my original C&C from my first Mac, a Performa. I loved that game. Have not tried playing it in Classic.

Dune 2 was the first of the modern day rts as we know it. You could also argue that Populous which was on the Amiga a few years prior to Dune 2 could well be the very first rts since many concepts used in Dune 2 was used in Populous. It just so happened that the term rts hadn't been coined up yet. Just a thought....

I cannot wait for C&C: Generals. I am a RTS fanatic, and until recently there had been a dearth of them on the Mac. But with Age of Mythology (Which I also love) and C&C... things are looking up.

I must admit that I have never gotten into the original C&C series. I didn't get my first computer until around 2000, and by that time C&C was looking very dated graphically. And since graphics were all that concerned me at the time, I never gave the series the chance it deserved.

Oh well, here is my chance for penance... BRING ON GENERALS!
