Hey there!

As you can see this is my first post here on MacNN, although some of you guys have
helped me out many times already. Thank you!

Now that my Mac (after some time of mess) is fully on top of things again I am dying to
play some good games. I've been looking around already but haven't found anything
that I really like. Which is mainly due to me being quite a wuz whem it comes to gaming.
I don't like shooting things but rather building things, and I don't like mutans or aliens in
my games but rather sweet comic-like characters. (Told you I am a wuz...) My favourite
game on my old PC was Anno 1602.

Additionally, I am short of money (as per usual) and want to run the game under OS X
on an iBook, 500MHz, 256K (L2). - I hope this didn't show too much that technically I
don't have any idea what I am talking about...

Now, if you're not too annoyed with my message already it would be just great if you
could post some suggestions. All the best, bb.

PS. I already play the Sims but that gets boring after a while...

You could try some of the Myst series, I think that RealMyst works in OS X, though I am not sure about the others

Myst is great. Also, have you tried the SimCity series? Or Theme Park or something like that where you build up cities and parks and stuff. But seeing as how you're on a 500MHz G3, I'm not sure the Sim games will run too well on it.

Too bad you don't like aliens or guns cause Aliens vs Predator (1, not 2) rocks. Has to be one of the better single-player shooters for that wimpy hardware.

Hearts of Iron is out, a huge strategy game set in WWII. Great if you like that sort of thing like me. Its really more military (it is a war) but also has other aspects of your country, certainly similar to the civ series.

Age of Empires and the upcoming age of mythology are fun, quite a lot of building/research/gathering but primarily focused on battle.

I'm not sure if that "wuz" (would it hurt to spell?) enough for you. Sim ThemePark and sim city are pure building games. WarCraft will run ok, but again its more warfare.

I honestly can't think of a decent game I enjoy where killing is not par for the course

Sell everything you own, buy a dual G5. Max it out with ram and the best available video card.

Move as far away from everything as you can without losing broadband. Lie and tell your family/friends you joined the peace corps and you will be back in 18 months.
By the time you accomplish this......

Doom 3.

You will be converted.

Oh,PS,

I spend a lot of my gaming time on emulators - (ie those at emulation.net). The iBook500 handles SNES emulation very well, so you can play classics like Mario All-Stars, Donkey-Kong Country etc. Just thought you might like to know...

On a related note, will Black and White run on a rev D iMac?

Lots of good stuff out there, and in the pipeline.

Check out http://www.apple.com/games/ for the basics.

I'd strongly recommend King of Dragon Pass as a unique, somewhat uncategorizable game (I suppose hybrid story-based strategy game with role-playing elements). The style is not sweet, really, but is well done, and by no means generic; the game taps into a very rich mythology that's incredibly absorbing. Alas it only runs (pretty OK) in Classic; on the plus side it's really fun (and different) and is now a steal at $20. Check it out.

Ya, I'll second Enigmo.

I am usually really into things like first person shooters, or real time strategy (best game of all time is SC), but Enigmo game was awesome. I mean, it's like lemmings, but more fun! And that's saying a lot, cus lemmings was amazing.
