I installed the sims, then installed the carbon patch but when I went to install Livin' Larg, it says that I don't have enough room. Now this is impossible, I have about 45g left from my 80g hard drive on my new 15" Albook. Huh?
I ran disk utility, then the same thing. I have restarted since but still nothing. I can play the sims, but not install livin large.
Any ideas?

My situation was exactly the same. With 70 Gb free, it still claimed it didn't have any space to install.
I believe the installer actually looks at the installation CD when trying to install, which of course has zero free space. So I solved this by just making a copy of the entire Sims folder--the idea is to force the installer to acknowledge two different copies and ask you where you want Livin' Large.
It worked for me, just as hypothesized. So step (1) copy the Sims folder, step (2) install, and (3) erase the dummy copy.

Or, if you have OS 9, just boot into it and install. That's what I did.

Copy it anywhere. As long as the installer sees two copies it will ask you which one you want to upgrade.
