The long awaited 1.10 patch for Diablo II has been released. Connect to battle.net with your Diablo II or Diablo II Lord of Destruction client to receive the patch.

Woohoo, but now D2 won't startup. Changes screen resolutions and crashes. Ideas?

If you want, mail me a crash log and a system profiler report and I will have a look at it.

Try deleting any prefs files from previous versions of D2 and see if you notice a difference.

Deleted prefs, repaired permissions, erased "Save" folder, and now we're good to go. Thanks, Rob. Whatever fixed it, it was one of those. Ah, it's games like this that make me glad I'm going into the game art field.

Now to see all the new stuff!

Wait, apparently that didn't fix it. I can't run it in Software mode. Hmm. I can only run it in hardware (OpenGL), but I don't want to. Software mode is still more consistent for me. Damn, I don't want to be forced to use OGL.

Crash Log

Edit: Holy crap, OpenGL performance seems worse. I can't even go to cows now, even with perspective off, since I'm forced to use OGL instead of software mode. Ah well. Time for a D2 break until that crash is fixed for me, I guess.

We've been able to reproduce one such bug here, if you use software graphics mode in full screen it may crash on Panther. If you think you are running into this, please hold down 'option' as you launch the game to get the video setup dialog, then enable OpenGL mode and see if the game runs OK for you then.

OpenGL mode is greatly improved on v1.10 if you have hardware of Radeon class or better and 256MB of RAM, so give it a try.

We are actively working on a fix here.

That is, indeed, the problem. I sent a log. Too bad I'm on a GeForce 3—it's running terribly in OGL mode. Time for a Radeon, methinks.

1.10 runs great for me in OpenGL on a Dual 867 G4. My video card is a Geforce4MX 64MB VRAM.

If I wasn't a level 4 Necro I would.

- Support for both "widescreen" and "4:3" mode in Mac OS X 10.2+.
Where is this option at? Could not find it. Does it depend on the monitor used?

Write me with your specific error / problem description, please include a screenshot, crash log, and/or system profiler report, and we'll see what we can do.

We've already nailed one bug today for 10.3 users, thanks in large part to people who put together complete bug reports in that fashion.

It will only show up in the video resolution popup of the video configuration dialog, there is one such popup for 640x480 and one for 800x600). The option will not appear unless you have a wide format screen device.

Finally, after almost 2 years of waiting for this damn patch to come out. But now I don't have OS 9 on my system, is there a OS X installer for my cds? both the normal Diablo II, and the expansion.

You need OS9 installed to be able to run the installer on those CD's. The installer should work OK in Classic mode under OSX but you still need that OS9 image to support Classic.

What system do you have? Both of the new machines I have recently played with came with a software restore CD that made it very easy to put OS9 and some classic apps back on the machine without disrupting anything else.

Does widescreen mode give you the normal field of vision PLUS extra stuff on the sides? If so, I'll set my monitor to widescreen and be on my way...
Be happy.

I did a clean install of Panther, but it didn't install OS 9 on my computer. It says that the OS is not installed or found on the computer when I try to use it. I checked and find out that yea, I don't have the OS 9 folder on my computer.

Cool news about 1.10 being released - I just hope that the Software rendering works on my iBook. It works very well on the 1.09 but OpenGL is unplayable. I have a Rage 128.

I'll check it out tonight.

No. The widescreen support just lets you use either stretched or nonstretched on widescreen displays. Before, it was at the whim of the OS as to what mode you used.

I have never played D2, and I am kinda wondering what the big deal with 1.10 is. It seems like people have been waiting for this for a long time. What is 1.10 adding to D2 that makes it so much better than 1.09?

well, I guess until blizzard comes out with installers that work with X, I won't be too concerned with playing Diablo 2. I played a long time ago, but I'm not going to install an operating system I don't need at all in order to play this game. Starcraft is the same way. Why doesn't blizzard take the time to do this. It can't be hard to make an install program, or port the existing one. Does the game play better now, or is it just as bad as it was when blizzard released 1.07? (i think that was the patch that jacked the mac). Guess i'll stick to Warcraft 3.

Well, I wouldn't really call that "widescreen support" then, since stretched video is super-ugly. If I were running widescreen, I'd rather run with bars and a non-distorted image.
Be happy.

Which costs more resources to Blizzard? Putting time into make an OS X installer or some users installing a bare minimum Classic on their box? As long as Apple ships Macs that work with Classic and the installer works in Classic, Blizzard doesn't really have a huge need to make a new installer.

Why not? You can now control whether you get widescreen or not. For whatever reason, some people don't like the black bars.
WCIII is similar, although not identical. It renders as a stretched image at widescreen resolutions.

Do any games support REAL widescreen? As in, it fills the screen, and does not stretch the image?

a2daj - Well, would you consider a 4:3 movie stretched to fill a movie theater screen "widescreen support?" Or would you consider the 2.35:1 version "widescreen?"
Be happy.
