I did a search but did not find the answer:

Since installing Panther, I have lost some graphics capabilities in SC4 (unpatched).

Examples:
The "coverage rings" for schools, fire stations, etc no longer display.

"Show grid" (g key) no longer displays the grid.

I haven't used the latest patch on the game because I heard of some other graphics glitches that appeared for some folks after patching.

DP 1.25 G4 (FW800)
1.5GB RAM
ATi Radeon 9000 Pro (64MB)

20" Apple Cinema Display
1680 x 1050

Modified Video Cards.sgr file:

'
vendor "ATI" 0x1002
card 0x4966 "Radeon 9000 Pro"
end
'

Will applying the patch fix the problems, or introduce others?

It may not introduce more problems, but it certainly won't help. Everyone with a Radeon card is having those glitches under Panther.

Aspyr claims it's Apple's fault, even though it's the ONLY game I've seen that has problems under Panther.

I'll bet that this won't be fixed until 10.4, if at all. It's like SimCity 3000 all over again.

No problems here on a 12" PB Rev B running Panther. This sounds like its a problem with the ATI driver.

I am having problems with Sim city 4.
Graphics are appearing in squares when scrolling. I must scroll in and out to make it disappear.

I have Panther on a PBG4. Is there an update or download available?

There is an update. This is reported to fix, amongst other things: "Fixed compatibility with various ATI cards, including the built-in video of the newest model PowerBook G4.". The update was released in September.

Details can be found here

just to piggyback on this SC4 isn't the only game i had issues with with that card (radeon 9000). Tiger Woods 03 showed artifacts sometimes, only under panther though. On my 12" Powerbook, sometimes the farms show up as white...the patch that was released didn't correct this..YMMV though.
