Some of you might have already seen this...but. Well, I was wanting to get a gamepad for my PC and my Mac, since I'm tried of playing NFS Underground with the K/B. And I love the XBOX Controller S...so then I got to thinking. The XBOX controller is a USB device...all I would need to do, is change the end, and it "should" work. Well it does!!!!

What you'll need -

USB Cable (Any will do, from a mouse, or extension, etc.)
XBOX Cable (Extension, or just one of the ends)
Electrical Tape
Wire Cutters
Soldering Iron / Solder

Steps -

Cut the USB plug off the end of it's cable.
Cut the end of the XBOX plug off it's cable.
(You will be using the USB plug, with the part of the XBOX cable that plugs into the controller, NOT the XBOX)
Once you do that...this is what you will be putting together, and what it will look like.

(I ended cutting some more back, after I took the pic, so I'd have more wire to play with.)

The USB Cable has 4 wires - RED, BLACK, GREEN, and WHITE.
The XBOX Cable has 5 wires - RED, BLACK, GREEN, WHITE, and YELLOW.
(The yellow wire will not be used at all...I'm guessing it has to do with the memory/expansion slots on the controller.)
Strip the Red, Black, Green, and White wires...on both cables.
And procced to connect/solder them together. Making sure that they don't touch, and get soldered together.
Like so...

Next, once you are done with that...wrap the wires indidually with electrical tape. And then wrap them all together, and secure them to each of the cables (so it's not hanging loose).

Once that's all done...plug the controller into the new adapter you made, and plug it into your computer. It will recognize it as a USB device, but will want drivers.

Go here to download the drivers for Windows -

Go here to download the drivers for Mac -

Point it to the new drivers you downloaded, and it will finish the install. And there you go! Happy gaming!

I don't think so...the reason it works so easy for the XBOX, is because the XBOX controller, and ports on the system are basically USB 1.1 devices...with different "ends". You could turn it around, and have a USB port on your XBOX, using the plug you cut off! hehe You can find the adapters that will convert the Cube controllers over to USB...that's the only way I know of for those.
