Just got these 2 for xmas. i have a 1.25ghz imac and they are both playing funny. Diablo 2 lags at times it doesnt freeze but it just slows down and goes to normal. also the run status and experience bars dont show up. In halo in there are weird shadows just kinda scattered about especially in multi. Also all the guns when in hand sort of have this jagged "wing" thing comming off of it.. Its trully bizzare. Warcraft 3 and all my other games run flawlessly. Whats going on??

Do you have the most up-to-date version of your graphics driver?

If his OS is up to date on an iMac, he has the latest drivers.

I'd do a test to see what else is running. SSH into the machine while the game is playing and run "top" to see what else is using CPU cycles.

For Diablo II, use software rendering. When the game starts up for the first time, a dialog box pops up that lets you change your video renderer. If you've disabled the dialog box, hold down option the next time you start up the game and it should pop up (if option doesn't work try the command key next time).

For Halo, try messing with the vertex shaders only/no shaders settings. Also, make sure model detail is set to High.

With Diablo2 ensure you've got the latest OSX patch from Blizzard. This will sort out the slowdown and enable you to run in hardware mode correctly.

As for Halo, check the other threads running on this. I believe you need to turn down a couple of the options.

Video drivers were updated in the last Update from Apple, so it's worth getting the machine up to date. Use the Software Update option in the System Preferences to check.

Best of luck!

I still wouldn't recommend OpenGL rendering at the moment. software rendering gives you much more consistent framerates, particularly when there's a lot of mobs on the screen.

Well, that's true. Still, it's much better than it was. ;-)

I played D2 alot like a year ago, but I was wondering if they have fixed the glitch that makes it seem like you are still moving around the screen, but you are really stuck on the edge of a wall farther back. I nearly got killed with a hardcore character like that.

I've not seen that problem reoccur for a while.

Then again, I'm so smitten with Age of Mythology at the moment Diablo2 isn't getting a look in.

It's historically been a result of lag, both graphical and network.
