While watching the very end of the credits after beating Halo (after my last post, where I had to restart the whole last level again, grrrrr), I thought the big sparkling thing flying by was the monitor. So, is Halo 2 going to be about the monitor going over to another Halo and trying to activate it? And why the heck can't you kill the Monitor anyway? He just flies right by you will you nuke it with rocket launchers and the like. At least I can get some real work done now

Yes, that is indeed the monitor...

Halo 2 will take place mostly on earth, or at least intially. I heard somewhere that you also visit one of the remaining pieces of the 'first' Halo.
For more info/speculation you can visit the Halo Story Page.

hmm if Halo 2 has any similarities towards the first one, it will get delayed 4 years, and Microsoft will get bought out by ummmm wal-mart, and then hmmm wal-mart will force them to make Halo 2 run only on their electronic cash registers and the calculators on their shopping carts. yea thats how its going to work.
