I have a chance to get a free Xbox S Controller, and theres no use me having 3 controllers. So I wanna hack it to USB, this apparently isn't hard due to it being USB itself, just not the connector. What I wanna know, would I be able to use the controller with OS X games? Like Jedi Academy?

Gotta love Microsoft's proprietary connector for the Universal Serial Bus standard... Kind of like Apple and their lovely proprietary video adapters

well, you can buy Xbox to USB adapters for a little over ten bucks from Playasia.com

USBOverdrive works fairly well for configuring gamepads...

But is there anything better?

For some reason USBOverdrive won't let me map the right/left on the right analog stick of my controller.

I decided to get the USB adaptor from play-asia.com, and on the site there is a driver for it built for OS X. I dunno if this means I dont have to use USBOverdrive or not, I'll report back when I get it (shipped yesterday).

Ok, so the adapter came today, I hooked it up and with the driver already installed, I was ready to go. So I open up Jedi Academy, and have not got a clue how to assign buttons to it, Halo neither . Anyone got any ideas? I looked at USBOverdrive but if I change it to a key, none of the buttons seem to work on the controller. Any ideas?

USB plugs are the worst design ever - gotta love Intel for that one. You can't tell which way up they are supposed to go without looking inside the end for the white plastic block. The XBox controllers have this lovely fat, meaty plug that can only possibly go in one way, and does so with a definate snap. Even nicer than Firewire plugs.

For Halo I think you need the APE enhancer from insanity and a plug-in for it specifically for Halo.

I can't seem to get the driver to install. I get an installer error: "The postflight script was either not executable or not readable."

I did open the pkg. with Pacifist and I got everything where it belongs except for the daemon.app. Anyone know where that goes?

It's name is: XboxHIDDaemonLauncher

thanks, bd

I've used it with UT2004 but not Halo. Had a thread on it a few months ago.

That driver is non-functional for me. It would not even load into the installer program on my Powerbook, and on my iMac the installer ran, but it never put the prefpane in any prefpane folder on this system... very wierd

What version of Stuffit Expander are you using? I had the same trouble with my powerbook, but then downloaded it to my G5 with Stuffit 7 and it works just fine. I had written the author asking him about it and he suggested:

Upgrade to the latest version of Stuffit Expander, extract again, and
install.
So while I didn't upgrade to the latest version, a different version of stuffit worked...
