I'm thinking about getting an iBook, not for games, but I'd like to play games if possible.

Any comments about any of the games would be very interesting to me.

Can the iBook G4 800 Mhz handle any of the following games?

Warcraft 3 (and Expansion)
America's Army
Black and White
Quake 3
Unreal Tournament 2003
Unreal Tournament 2004
Sim City 2004
XIII
Halo
Tony Hawk 4
RTCW
Jedi Knight (the newer one coming out)

Yeah, thats probably all the games I really might want to play.

Yes - Warcraft 3 (and Expansion)
Yes - Black and White
Yes - Quake 3
Yes - Unreal Tournament 2003
Yes - RTCW
Yes - Jedi Knight (the newer one coming out)
Yes - Max Payne
Yes - Myth III (although, Myth II is way better).

I've played all these games on an iMac 600 (G3, 16 MB video card, 512 MB RAM)

I don't know about the other games, since I've never played them.

I'd scratch Halo. I've played it on a G5 and THAT could barely handle it.

See xlr8yourmac for my Halo review on an iBook 800. (Hint: it's teh sukc)

UT2K3 will be OK. Not great, but OK. UT2K4 will be more mediocre.

The rest are very playable.

I play Q3A like a fool.

Well, I'll weigh in and say that yesterday I picked up Halo just for the hell of it. I have a new G4 iBook 800 with the RAM maxed out. I lowered the settings nearly all the way, and I have made it to the beginning of level 3 with no problems to speak of. In big battles, once in a while it feels sluggish for a second or two, but not enough to really bother me. We'll see how crazy the levels get later, but for now, I am pleasantly surprised at how well it runs. In fact, I may started cranking one or two settings back up a notch.

One thing I am sure helps is that I followed the advice in the ReadMe and set my Energy Saver processor settings to maximum. They say this makes a huge difference in performance on prtables, and I am inclined to agree, since my iBook's fan cranked on several times after doing that. Usually, the fan comes on so rarely that I often forget about it and think, "What the hell is that noise?". It must be getting a workout.

Obviously, I am not playing online, and am only concerned with the single-player experience. I know that with the right equipment, the game can look simply gorgeous, but I am also fine with the way it looks on the low settings. My personal taste, of course.

That said, I really, really feel like I am back in the glory days (December 1994) playing Marathon on my Quadra 650. This game is so totally Marathon - I love it! I can't help wondering when Durandal is going to show up and start hassling me.

Also, as Larry Niven fan, it's a thrill to look up and see "The Arch" hanging across the sky. I keep getting shot while I do this.

Hope this helps.
