Is it really not possible to throw the saber staff? Alternate attack button does nothing except kick for me, but I think i saw an enemy throw his staff, and in the info about the lightsaber it still says that the secondary attack is force throw...

just press "L" to switch your saber attack style.
in fast mode one end of your saber staff will discharge and then you can throw the saber out.
I press hold my saber tight though

Yeah, no staff throwing. Very bad when trying to nab flying baddies. Still, saber throw isn't horribly useful anyway.
If you just have to do it pick dual sabers and then you can throw one saber while using the other.

Those cows won't know what hit 'em. They won't know what hit them even after it hits them, because they're cows.

Actually one of the most useful moves is a saber throw... If you've got dual sabers, there's a special move where you toss both sabers and levitate them both around you in an orbit, striking enemies while (hopefully) keeping you safe.

Unless of course your foes just step back and heal. Speed might also be a problem.
Each saber/style has some special moves. Dual sabers probably has the most and staff the least.

Yeah thats a good move the computer does it often. BUT... the easiest thing to do is back up and throw the saber at their helpless body while the sabers are rotating for an easy kill. I check him out everytime he does it because it leaves you so open to attack.
I prefer the staff when fighting multiple enimies because it gives you a better circumference if they come from behind. You have a better defensive angle. You dont have as many fancy moves but I just use the force, baby! I have like 6 force power hotkeyed to go at anytime plus the staff and all works well for me as a balance of offense and defense.
