A friend will receive his new Dual 2 GHz G5 this week, since we are not computer gamers but Nintendo gamers, will be nice to have a sneak into the G5 power to run some games, it will come with the stock ATI since play games is the last thing it is aimed to. Could you name some appropiate games?, To be honest is just curiosity.

Don't use games.

Instead, use Photoshop.

Unreal Tournament 2003 is the only when with really good graphics that I can think of...
But other games with not so amazing effects are: Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Warcraft 3, and Jedi Kinght: Jedi Academy.

Running Warcraft III and World of Warcraft at the same time [windowed] is impressive to most folk... for bonus points leave a DVD playing in the background too. Then bust out some Expose' kung fu for the finishing move..

ah, rob is my hero. yeah, the windows folk are always jealous of the windowed mode Blizzard games (although I think if you add -window you can do the same thing on Windows..).

Hey Rob, how about ya hook me up with a WoW Beta slot so I can show off my...G4 733 . Well, I'll try to remember to signup tomorrow.

If you want to show off the power of a Dual G5, you're looking for games that have SMP support. Doesn't Quake III have SMP support? Also doesn't Jedi Knight II or one of the newer games have SMP support?

Unreal Tournament 2003 will show off the nice graphics, but not the true power of a dual machine. Only the sound runs on the second engine.

We need more new games with SMP support!

Yeah, apparently, when you work on an application, you get to run it on your computer

I believe JKII supports SMP in Multiplayer mode, though not single player mode. Quake3 fully supports SMP for everything. Sadly, it's still the most optimized SMP game to date. And that's a real shame considering how old it is. If you visit Mac benchmark sites (xlr8yourmac, Barefeats, Macsonly, etc) you still see Quake3 being used in the latest benchmarks alongside more recent games - if only to showcase dual processor Macs and the latest graphics cards (IE Radeon 9800).

We need more new games with SMP support!

I agree completely! But this has been debated here quite often. Simply put, it's not going to happen unless the original PC version of the game has dual processor support. And of course dual processors aren't as common on PCs. So I'm guessing our next chance for a fully supported SMP game will probably be Doom3. No guarantees though........joe

what's funny is I've looked for a few months to BUY a copy of Quake III
and Can't find it!@^&%#%

I've got the demo and liked it so much on a dual 800 quicksilver that I really wanted it (OK, I'm a little late to the gaming party)

put in 4 orders at 4 places that all listed it as "in stock", 3 cancelled, one still back ordered since December....

Any one know where a guy can get a legal copy?

tried to email the company, but seems the website not set up to let them know that there are no copies available for purchase....

kinda funny when you look at "quake con" and the fact that apart from UT03 it is the first person shooter.....

I would rather buy a cheaper computer with better performance on high settings than a more expensive computer with better performance on low settings.

You live in Dubuque? Dang, i was born there..

Damn, I'm actually surprised at how well the Dual 2 GHz G5 did against the 3 GHz P4.

"P4/3.4 = Pentium 4 3.36GHz (overclocked from 2.4GHz)"

But I like the result.

I wouldn't use Halo to show off good graphics. UT2003 has the best texture mapping and map models that I've seen on the Mac to date.

Don't get me wrong, Halo's got phenomenal gameplay, but it's not much to look at it the special effects department.
