splashdamage has release the gamesource of rtcw enemy territory. http://www.splashdamage.co.uk/module...load&sid=8
is this a chance for a os x port? perhaps as a mod for rtcw.
anyone tried to compile it? i have got several errors:
sh: line 1: /lib/libc.so.6: No such file or directory
Enemy Territory version 2.56
cpu : x86

on linux x86 i get the same errors...

hah you can't just re-compile a 3D game and have it work on a Mac(or anything non-java for that matter). A programmer has to go through the code and change stuff. It'd be nice to have the game, but all my PC buds say RtCW is much better.

Some time ago on this forum someone volunteered to bring RTCW ET to the Mac. Now`s his chance!
I can`t wait for it. The only reason I keep my old Windows PC is for playing ET.
RTCW has a lot more CQB; you spawn and you`re in the middle of the action.
In ET you spawn-run around and bit and then fight. I love the characters different abilities-makes gameplay a lot more rewarding.

i think its not as hard to port a linux-quake3-based game to os x than a directx9 pc game. i dont know how much they modified the engine itself.
but et was designed as an addon. if thats an commercial mod it sould be possible to port it to os x via rtcw.
if they touched the engine itself the game-source-code is worthless for porting.

That was me, and unfortunately this code is worthless. It's the Mod kit SDK, not the game source or engine source. (They call it the "game" source because that's the name of the dll involved in Quake 3 terms).
In other words, unless you want to make mods for RTCW: ET, this code isn't of much use.

why aren't they releasing the actual game source code, it's not like they are going to sell it anyways. Are they afraid other companies will copy their secrets?

The code is not entirely their own. It's a custom version of the Quake 3 engine, whose source is still very much closed. We're probably years away from seeing it get open-sourced given the long legs this engine has shown.
