Does Unreal run even remotely well on a G3 iMac with 16 MB VRAM and 320 megs and OSX of RAM or just not, I have Quake 3 and it runs just fine. So I hope unreal does too.

you have got to be kidding. They are programmers, not magicians.

Minimum System Requirements: Macintosh 933MHz/G4-G5 or faster processor, Mac OS X v10.2.8 or higher, 256MB RAM, 32MB AGP Video Card, DVD Drive, 6GB hard disk space. Internet or LAN connection required for online play. (Note: Some maps and game types playable on 800MHz, or faster, processors).

How yuins guys doin' an'at????

a good thought at that....but to bad a stretch.

Anyway....I probably shouldn't mention it 'cause I know I can't act on it immediately, but thinking of trying to set up a MUG around Pitt (i'm an old non-traditional student) and amazed at lack of anything going on...if I do I'll send you a PM...I would imagine it would be open meeting, if you're not in some way involved w/ Pitt anyway....

take care

I'd reccommend the original UT. It ran just fine on my old iMac 350 with an 8MB Rage 128 VR, and it's arguably better than UT2K4 anyway
And it's cheap, and still has a huge community
Be happy.

Did I mention I have OSX

There are updates for the original Unreal Tournament that make it compatible with Mac OS X. I'm not sure how easy it'll be to find a copy of the original Unreal Tournament for sale anywhere, and you'll need classic to install it, but it should work great

Last time I used that port, it was buggy as hell. I hope they improved it.

I have used Unreal Tournament OS X Preview 3 on 2 Powerbooks and a dual 2.0 G5 and it runs perfectly. Mac Game Files should have all of the updates you need.

I'm going to try again, and report back. I believe I used Preview 2 last time I played, and probably on 10.1. (Maybe 10.2). Anyway, I'm sure my experience will be better this time.

Well, it works, but definitely not as well as Quake 3 Arena does on my 600mhz iBook. That game is crazily optimized, I can run it playable at 1024*768 res! Meanwhile, UT Preview 3 stutters at 640. Hmm.

Not by much, its a great game through, but looks and sounds much better in OS9.
LAN Cooperative assault missions are stunning.
No game I seen recently comes close to the buzz of attacking "The Castle" in UT. Perhaps Halo comes close.

FYI unreal (original) primarily a single player game, still looks stunning. Better lighting and water effects than UT. Will only ever run pre OSX. Its worth the reboot.

Used to have the most incredible lighting effects on my G3266 + Voodoo3.
