Finally got my copy of HALO for a bargain price on Ebay. After 2 days of Single Player Mode I`m still waiting for any kind of great gaming experience to set in. The game is boring as hell!!!!
The library level sucks; why did they use the same corridors over and over and over again?????

Compared to Games like RTCW and Medal of Honor this game stinks!
I never thought I would say something like this about the game as I was really looking forward to it-but I´m deeply disappointed.

One thing could have rescued it: they should`ve included a "Warthog jump" mode; that would`ve been fun.

The graphics look like they are from Playstation 1. Why did they do this to me???

It's really linear and repetitive, yeah. Having seen the first demo at a Stevenote, I was expecting the ability to drive around and explore, even in limited amounts.

But no, you just press the buttons like you're told to, while being expected to rejoice of yet another encounter with the Flood.

Yawn.

I'm enjoying the single-player mode, though I haven't had a chance to play it online yet.

I myself think it's a good game - just NOT the incredible uber-fest that some folks make it out to be. ;P

It's the most fun in single player mode I've had out of any FPS aside from Unreal. Once I beat RtCW I never went back except for multiplayer. Same with MoH. With Halo, the vehicles really made the single player for me. I have a lot of fun just dink around on levels with the Puma.

Comparing to Metroid Prime, Halo's single-player is really pale and uncreative. The ONLY thing I enjoyed in single-player is driving the vehicles.

That exploding humans level and other repetitive levels just ruined the game for me. Déjå Vü 24/7

I agree totally. The multiplayer is the best thing. Thats the only reason I really wanted to play it. The 'Flood' and the repetition are the worse parts of the single player game by far. It would have been better if there were more outdoor levels with the vehicles and no 'Flood' at all.

My friends and I really enjoy playing random levels on Co-op. It really adds more depth and fun to the game. I thought it was a damn good game. Of course it took so long to be released and has now been around for a while so it is really showing its age graphics and sound-wise.

Multiplayer is totally where it's at, indeed. But I did, personally, enjoy the story of the single player mode. I look forward to seeing how that progresses in Halo II. Of course, I'm more excited for the multiplayer in Halo 2. Though I probably won't end up playing it until it comes out on the PC or Mac (which will probably take well over a year).

I`m glad that others agree. After all the hype I didn`t know which game they were talking about-definitely not the one I was playing.
Will check out Multiplayer this weekend-maybe it can save the game.

I like the story though.
Anyone heard rumours of a script being circulated in Hollywood?
Maybe another science fiction role for Vin Diesel?

I thought the SP was the most fun I've ever had playing through a game...the story was only ok, but I just found it incredibly fun to play. It's the only game I've ever gone through again, and I'm actually just poking my way through for a third time whenever I have a few spare moments. I dunno, it just clicked for me.

Halo was definitely over-hyped. I haven't played through the game completely...and I might not.

Whatever creativity Bungie had creating new game genres (Myth) or intricate plot-lines (PiD and Marathon) died in the switch to Microsoft. RIP Bungie.

The xbox version is so much better, if it had built-in online play it would be perfect. You wouldn't have to worry about lag. My friends and I play the xbox version multiplayer a lot. We wish we could have a 16 player game going with a bunch of people.

The Library - The ultimate copy and paste level job
Two Betrayals - Assault on the Control Room with minor changes in reverse
Keyes - Lame dark outdoor fighting at the beginning, then Truth and Reconcilation in reverse with minor changes
The Maw - Pillar of Autumn in reverse with minor changes, and then a pretty decent race at the end

Single player has a lot of repetition even in the levels that are not "repeated" (with the exception of Halo and Silent Cartographer). It's still a fun game, just needs better level design for the sequel.

AFAIK, the game production changed direction when it became an xBox title. Considering the quality of single player level design and story in earlier games (Marathon, Myth), something dramatic must have happened.

Must have been the people that wrote the stories and worked out how to make a creative, fun and thrilling single player game.

MP Halo is fun though.

What`s different about the XBOX version?

I played a few levels back when XBOX was introduced and was fascinated.
Unfortunately none of that was left when I got it for my MAC.

Its on okay single player experience. Certainly not ground-breaking but its fairly fun.

Multiplayer is good, not great.

I think your missing the hypnotic suggestions mode, possibly due to playing the game on an LCD. LCDs have a much harder time being used to deliver hypnotic messages then CRTs, due to the inability to change a dynamic image as quickly and seamlessly as a CRT.

On the other hand, I believe MS integrated this part of the game directly into the XBox startup sequence, so even if you didn't own the game, you had to talk about how awesome it was and go buy it.

Personally been disappointed in the stripped down repetative release of Halo even since I saw what they wanted to do back at E3 2000. The butout from MS and a quick port to the XBox saw the death of the game in my eyes. And the PC/Mac version is simply a port of the XBox game with a few new goodies by people other then Bungie.

At least Halo 2 might be decent since it's not being rushed to try and prevent a crappy console launch.

They probably left the singleplayer part as it was after Bungie got bought.. And then released it!

I did pay attention to the story line. It was good. But I am talking about level design. Story line != level design. There is no denying that a lot of parts in Halo's level design are repetitive. When you end up reusing a level or two in a game that might be okay if the story justifies it. But when you go through a level where every room is almost the same, and then go through 2 levels you've played before but in reverse, and then go through some levels that use the same textures and design from previous levels, that's not very creative.

halo.bungie.org is no secret to me. I have them in my RSS feed, and I have witnessed a lot of secrets and stunts myself. As I have witnessed a lot of bugs and problems...

They switched it from a third-person action game to a first-person shooter with less than a year of dev time left, IIRC.

That explains it for me Halo was never intended to be an FPS 'til MS bought the company.

thats true. they wanted to make it oni with less fighting, and more shooting, but it is a great game anyways.

The full story (or quasi-full story) behind Halo has been posted on the newly revised Bungie.net here

Talking about the Evolution of Halo movie I'm assuming. It's here. Includes a lot of the scenes talked about in the history of Halo article from bungie.net and some amusing commentary.

Yeah I have played and beaten the game through on all the difficulty levels and I have to say I like it alot and it's a great game, but it is way overhyped and overrated by everyone.

Magazines and websites gave it insanely high review scores for no reason. The levels are pretty repetitive and get old fast. The environments look recycled after awhile too. I agree it is a good game but it lacks depth in my opinion. I'm not sure why everyone would give up their leg just to play it some more. Oh well..
