I know the minimum requirements for cod mac is powerpc g4/g5 837 mhz (checkd aspyr site)

I have 12" ibook g4 800 mhz... would that 37mhz forbid me from playing the game.. It doesn't bother me if I have to have the lowest settings.

Hey, I'm still having my delemma over in the PowerBook forum about whether a brand new 1.25 GHz G4 with the 64mb ATI card is going to be able to run great games for the next two years or so. Call of Duty, UT 2004 & Halo are must haves, and for the money i'll be spending, I better get a great experience. Now, if someone decides to come out with Far Cry for the Mac...THAT's when the real test will be on.

P.S.--> try playing a demo of a game that has the requirements of your current system. If that plays to your liking then there's a good chance that COD will be just fine for your needs.

hey Frumpy,

It has probably been said in another post, but remember that you can spend top dollar on a dual 2GHZ G5 tower, but if the software is poorly written the gaming experience is gonna suck.

I have noticed with many games that when they are ported to the mac they are not optimized very well, and definitely perform under what the PC version does. This is on top end machines too.

Having said that, I just spent 4 hours playing Halo on my buddies 1GHZ 17" Powerbook. The settings had to be dummied down a bit (most of them were midddle of the road), but the game play was perfectly acceptable IMHO. It wouldn't have been, however, if I had cranked all the settings to high.

Halo wants an 800 G4 w/ 32mb graphics card. Halo will run "just about" as well as COD. I mean, i would think...

Hm, well I downloaded the unreal tournament 2004 demo and on 640 x 480 with all lowest settings the only playable game mode is barely team deathmatch. And UT has lower minimum requirements than cod. Maybe the ibook g4 isn't cut out to play first person shooters. It plays aoe II flawlessly

There was a bug in the demo... something to do with the sound settings. I only briefly read a thread on it but apparently if you turn off the sound in the demo (I think in the ini file) the frame rate goes way up.

Do a search, it wasn't too long ago I read it.

Cheers!

wow, thanks I can't believe I missed that! I just turned off the sound in the unreal tournament 2k4 demo and now the thing flys smoothly at an acceptable resoultion and detail settings. I also read that a patch is coming out that will enable you to play this with sound soon.

Now that I have seen this I actually have hope for call of duty on this poor little ibook.
