i have a gigabit dual G4 500 with a radeon 7000 and the video card is garbage. i was wondering what a good cheap replacement would be. can people still buy PC ATi radeo 8500s and flash them to work in the mac? what are my other options. i just want to be able to get decent frame rates in quake 3 and neverwinter nights.

A Radeon 9000 64MB would not be a bad choice. Nor would a 64MB GeForce 4MX - OEM from eBay.

Anything more would be a waste unless you intend to upgrade your processor.

And as far as flashing: Discussion of flashing has become 'tabu' around here. So, I won't go into it.

Your best bet at this point is to get the new ATI Radeon 9000 with 128MB of VRAM. This card is shipping soon and the current Radeon 9000 with 64MB of VRAM is EOL (End of Life) according to ATI.
