Worms is finally out for the Mac. That excites me.

Anyone have it? How does it compare to Worms 2/Armageddon?

Cross-platform network play?

I've downloaded the demo three times. Couldn't install it (bloody VISE-installer).

We haven't had any reports of the installer failing - did you get an error message?

For network play I think I either posted over at IMG or in the big network thread here with the background: but unfortunately, no, network games aren't compatible between platforms.

It's loads of fun, it's in 3D, it's addictive as hell, it runs incredibly well on a G3 (800 ish) - all in all an extremely good conversion!

Good work Dair!

I'm playing the demo, and I don't think it's going to live up to Worms 2/Armageddon.

I'll give myself time to get used to it though, but it seems to fall into the 3D trap of just not being simple enough to be as endlessly enjoyable as its predecessors.

Edit: Teehee. In true Worms tradition, I just lost a game to myself by accidentally jumping into the water...

Edit 2: Heh, a relatively minor thing: I think the mood of the whole game isn't quite as inviting, and I think it's because the colors simply aren't bright and cartooney enough. Small detail, yes, but true.

I am beginning to get accustomed to the controls, though.

Yes. Almost at the end of the install, some file with the number 12 in it. Tried downloading it from three different places (including one unofficial BitTorrent-resource). But no go. I want to play this game so bad

Hmm, that does sound like the installer is corrupt - although if you've done several downloads then you'd think one of them would work. Could I ask you to send an ASP report from your system and an md5 of the installer .dmg in to w3dsupport AT feral.co.uk?

They'll pass it on to us to look at, and we can compare your checksum with the reference build to see if you have a bad download (or if the installer is breaking for some other reason).

Oh yes. Forgive me for not posting this sooner --

THANK YOU SO. SO. SO. MUCH to Mr. Grant and whoever else ported the game and other games.

(I still wish Worms Armageddon could have a Mac port, just for kicks. I'd buy it...)

I would if I hadn't already deleted them. I'll send you an ASP report anyway if you'd think it'll help.

If you do feel like downloading it again, you can compare what you get to these md5s. These are from this link:
  • 4779b60df29127501a1ab52ecda5e3ef, Worms3DDemo.dmg.sit
  • cb918e8cd29c67e86b954a3f58ad15e5, Worms3DDemo.dmg
  • d663e88408fff75993a851311333f995, Worms 3D Demo Installer
  • 48b9386adc288def6dfb3b759ffee918, Worms 3D Demo
That should help us see at what point your copy diverges from what it should be.
THANK YOU SO. SO. SO. MUCH to Mr. Grant and whoever else ported the game and other games.
Thanks - Worms 3D was done by one of our other engineers, Chris Kent, but I'll pass it on.

Ok, perhaps I am really slow, blind, or something similar, but I cannot figure out how to change weapons in the worms demo. It doesn't appear to say how to do it anywhere on the main screen. Can anyone tell me?

Anyone else having issues with network play over GameRanger? I was finally able to actually play a game last night (the WoW server was down ) and after getting into the game, the first big attack from my wormy opponent caused the game to crash with a hard exception.

According to the other player this is a common problem online. Hopefully Feral will make a patch available soon. This is the only game right now that actually takes time away from WoW for me, go figure

We are investigating a problem where games go out of sync, and at present it looks like one trigger is to change the multiplayer game settings away from the default values.

Some combinations of multiplayer settings appear to make things go out of sync more reliably than others, but we hope to have this nailed down for a patch soon. As a workaround in the short term, you should find that games go out of sync less often if you play with the default multiplayer settings.

However, if you're experiencing an actual crash then please send us a crash log (and ASP report) from your system. If you compress it and mail it in to w3dsupport AT zonic.co.uk then it'll get into our support system automatically - thanks.
