Hey,

On the Windows side I love playing games like Civilization Evolution, and Civ 3 perhaps, what are my options on the Mac side? Preferably free and open source, but will listen to all offers.

Regards

Heroes of Might & Magic! Unfortunately, the last version (and the only run to be carbonized) runs like a dog... AI takes a while to think in battle. But it's an awesome series.

Heros of Might & Magic iV
Civ 3
MOO 3 (sadly sucks)
Worms (hey, it's turn based! )

those are the ones on my system. Of course none of these are free but you could also checkout http://mac.the-underdogs.org/ for some retro turn based games.

If you have a machine that is capable of booting into OS 9, then you might enjoy the Combat Mission series from http://www.Battlefront.com . There have been some reported issues with the Mac Radeon 9000, however. But the Battlefront discussion forum is also a great resource if you have any questions.

Yeah, Civ 3 is still an option. I know I had this one game (came from a MacAddict CD), but I can't think of what it was called...

The original Master of Orion runs great in Classic mode. You can get it here: http://mac.the-underdogs.org/

The best TBS ever developed, period, is Master of Orion 2. Should be like $5 at this point. But make sure to avoid Master of Orion 3 at all costs!
Be happy.

Didn't Sid Meier's Alpha Centuri ever come out for the Mac? I've never played it (too busy playing Civ 3), but I've heard people say that it has all the good elements of Civ 3 with less of the silly stuff.
