Hi,

Does anybody here play America's Army on their PB laptop? Can you share your experience? Do you use a joystick for the game? If so, what kind do you suggest?

Thanks.

I just got a 1.5 17incher and I must say its a total dissapointment with games. America's Army runs like crap. Halo, ut2004 runs like crap too. Thank god I found someone to buy my laptop so I can buy a dell or maybe alienware notebooks. Haven't really decided on which yet. I stick to my G5 for work and getting a PC for play. Just dont rely on Powerbooks to play any games even if they have ATI 9700 which makes no difference at all compare to their old 9600.

Wow, with no disrespect intended... sucks to be you!

I am currently playing Call of Duty on a 1.5Ghz PB and it runs great in high settings, as does Medal of Honor, Max Payne, Undying, Command and Conquer, Tony Hawk, Jedi Academy, and of course... chess!

The only one I have been disappointed with is Halo, but I have played it on a Mac and on a PC, and both ports have performance issues! I play Halo in 1280 x 854 resolution with no Pixel Shaders or FSAA and everything on Medium or in some cases low. It runs not too bad, but no where near as well as Call of Duty is running.

The only decent place to get the full Halo effect is on an XBOX!

Cheers,

James

Hmmm. Too bad cause even playing WoW my 12" PB is fabulous!

I heard those new portable Intel chips are real screamers compared to a PowerPC chip. <sarcasm/>

My friend, a "switcher", bought an Alienware laptop for games, and he says it was the worst decision he's ever made. The thing is nothing but problems.

And, did you get the update for UT2004? There was a bad bug that made the sound cause lag on single processor Macs.

You'd think with all these Mac users wanting to buy PCs for games, there would be more PC users wanting to buy Macs for actual use!

Well, although the 10.3.4 update seemed to kill my PB for games for a while there, the glitch seems to have worked itself out...or something. For some reason everything is working fine again. UT, UT 2004, Halo all run great on my new 12". That's too bad that you're getting rid of that 17" just because you can't figure out how to play games correctly on it.
