Go here and download America's Army Special Forces.
http://www.americasarmy.com/downloads/
It's so realistic and runs very well on my pBook Rev C at ultrahigh graphics.
Originally developed as a training exercise it's been made available for free legally. You have o do the basic training online before you can go into combat, it's really great.

Yeah, it's a great game, but very complex... it's not the kind of game you can just fire up and have at it. You have to pass training courses, create an ID at the Army site, etc, etc. But it's a very realistic game.
And, where have you been.... this game has been out for at least a year now.

A friend has been trying to get me onto it for a long while. I've never seen a mention of it in any forums.
I just wanted to mention it...

I completed all the training, not fun enough for me though, although it is good.

Played it for a bit. I reckon if I had of paid for it I'd enjoy it more I think it's the same with anything really. Would I pay $40 for it? Probably.

It's a very cool game. Go to aaotracker.4players.de if you want to have you're stats tracked so you can see frags, fave map etc.
If you see me say hi. I go by the name Martin.mac.au.
There's also a post on the DAMN website with some other mac players on it.

Oh yeah and it's got ragdoll physics, cubemapping, and lots of other cool things. Some of the levels are really really pretty.

Okay, you guys got me excited about this game again... maybe I'll have to give it a shot. However, I have a feeling my poor little iMac isn't gonna be able to keep up with it.
We'll see...

It's a fairly good game with a highish learning curve. As mentioned above it's also a little bit of a pain to sign up and such. I still liked the game, but when it came out I was still playing a lot of CS, MOH:AA, and the like... so I didn't play much of it...

I tried to play this game, twice, but both times I ended up trashing it. The graphics are good and it's fun to play... but I wish the community was better. A lot of people seem to have the "l33t" attitude that comes with most other 3D FPS games. There's also no concept of teamwork on most servers. For example on the Pipeline map, I walked over to each valve to shut 'em down, only to be shot in the back by OpFor. The teammates wouldn't cover anyone who actually followed the objectives! They usually just rambo it out or play it as if it's team deathmatch. Very disappointed.
Another problem I have is that I keep getting disconnected from the server that maintains changes to your profile (i.e. completed missions, honor points, etc.). I find myself having to constantly reconnect with the server just to join a stupid game. What's worse is how it doesn't even attempt to reconnect while sending the results of your training mission. Did an awesome run on your marksmanship training? Well too bad! You have to do it over again because it couldn't connect to the server!
Oh boy, what fun!
The game has the potential to be very cool, but the attitude of the community and major netcode annoyances ruin it for me. If they made an offline version with bots, I may consider getting it again.

You need to get Call Of Duty and the Heat Of Battle mod!! It's all about teamplay, and the community it top-notch. Those "l33t" kids don't last long on the Heat Of Battle servers, which have rules, and ENFORCE them!

What are these mods? Are they third party downloads?
Yea the lack of teamwork by the kids and their rambo style actions is definetly a real turn off in the game.

Well, yes and no... Call of Duty is a new retail WWII game. And, Heat Of Battle is a free 3rd party Mod for it.
You might want to check out THIS site for things to spice up your America's Army.

Can it be both?
I remember playing SS for Windows a while back, and I was in on Beta. I'm looking to get some games for my new Powerbook, so I think this would be a good addition. So thanks, not for telling me about the game, but reminding me it existed, I used to love it!
Also, YAY FOR TORRENT!

I've been playing for almost a year now. It really is a fun game, but I have to agree that the player base is very rude. There is very little tolerance for the n00b. On more than one occasion, I reminded some they were new at one time, but was chastized. I have found servers where teamplay is great and they are willing to teach the new guy, but they are few.

That's unfortunate...guess it comes with the territory for FPS shooters. I was playing socom a several months ago, and a couple fools laughed at me when I accidentally ran into a wall as people were shooting at me. Can't help it if I'm klutzy with the ps2 controller.
Bunch of immature little f****ers. *shakes fist*

I love this game but heck I am a real soldier. This new version is mighty buggy and causes me to crash all the time. Playing on a PB 1.25 with 512 ram. I wish more people would go to teamspeak.org and leave a message telling them to hurry up with a mac version.
thanks peace out
