lol...

what he means I guess is that we should all band together and start signing a petition, and send that into Id.

I'm not too sure how effective that is. It worked towards getting "Freaks and Geeks" unto dvd, but has failed miserably towards the release of the series "Moonlighting" on dvd. Even game petitions (such as getting the sega cd game "snatcher" unto the ps2) didn't work either.

it sucks that game development for the mac has to be governed by the size of market share and that mac gamers are treated like 2nd class citizens in regards to release times. I'm still waiting for Splinter Cell to show up for the Mac.
Now I know, and knowing is half the battle!

Here's the thread he posted for everyone who didn't actually read it.

We know Doom 3 for the Mac is comming, so why not discuss it.

The system requirements should be give or take the same as the PC. Since a lot of Macs have dual processors, I'm thinking the minimum requirement should be either a single 1.42 ghz, or dual 867 mhz G4.

However, the processor requirements might be slightly raised since Macs don't have a sound processor on their built-in sound card. This means that the CPU(s) would have to do the sound processing.

Also, since the graphics subsystem in OS X is OpenGL, this might also raise the requirements a tad. OpenGL is a very powerful graphics engine providing beautiful rendering, but lacks the speed of DirectX for Windows. (For instance, Halo looks much better on the Mac, but is much slower.) Halo Mac Screenshot. The Doom 3 engine will have to be rewritten for the Mac, just as Halo's was because of the swicth to the OpenGL subsystem. The shading will have to be rewitten, and FSAA will have to be added.

The G5's should run Doom 3 fine. My Dual 1.8 with a Radeon 9600 should be more than fine, because of the G5's extremely powerful 64-bit core. A Dual 1.8 G5 should calculate into something like a Dual Opteron 2200. Unfortunately, there won't be a 64 bit version of Doom 3 for the Mac or PC upon release. 64-bit Code is something that could make Doom 3's performance double. Apple and IBM both have 64-bit coders for the G5, but I still don't picture ID using one. Since the shaders and lighting are all 32-bit, I dont think 64-bit porting would be possible anyway. (Correct me if I'm wrong on any of this.)

I have faith in ID, as their previous Mac games have been coded better than any other company's. They are well optimized, and are very stable. This can't be said for the Unreal Tournament series, which run like crap on the Mac. I'd say that ID is the best Mac game company around right now, which took the throne from Bungie, now owned by Microsoft.

I just remember that Doom 3 was first coded and shown on the Mac, just like Quake 3 was. Mac users will have a good game to look forward to. Do a good job, ID!

**And remember, flaming or discrimination on this simple topic only shows immaturity and incomprehension of different operating systems and their proper uses.
I'm gonna take a stab at the requirements:

Minimum
1GHz, 384MB

Recommended
1.4GHz, 512MB

Who wrote that piece of garbage? The thing is riddled with ********.

1. Doom 3 for PCs *only* uses the CPU for sound processing. So the Mac requirements wouldn't be raised one bit.
2. Doom 3 was coded with OpenGL in mind. Not Direct X. I'm pretty sure the OpenGL performance will be fine on Macs and pretty much nothing from the engine doesn't have to be rewritten. No requirement raising here either.
3. 64-bit most likely won't bring any significant speed increase let alone double the performance.
4. Unreal Tournament, 2k3, 2k4, have always been stable here. This is the first time I ever heard that UT is unstable.

Yeah, unfortunately I think his thread will only make the PC users who read it think that Mac users are... wait, they already think that.

All you guys suck so much. You all think you know everything, and act like a**holes. Sure, I DON'T know everything, but the LEAST you could do is at least reply to my "innacurate" post at planetdoom and correct me, while showing your Mac support.

The Gaming world thinks "Apples" are still machines from the ice age that can only browse the web. At least show'em ya exist and have interest in the game.

I agree: everyone went a little hard on ya. And others just didn't bother reading and thought it was a petition.

Agreed with Mindfad. I just think that gamers are immature no matter what platform it seems.

Give the guy a break. He did some wrong assumptions about the technical details of a game. Correct them politely and get over yourselves...
