Just wondering: Will there be any way to play games at the 30" Cinema Display's native resolution of 2560 x 1600? Meaning A) can any existing game be run at that resolution, and B) does the dual link DVI rig of the new display screw anything up?

Not that I'd expect fantastic framerates at 2560 x 1600 pixels or anything, but hey!

Can't any Q3-based game (like Call of Duty for instance) be set to any resolution through the terminal? I know that's how I get them to play on my 17" PBs native res.

Same question: Can any existing game (Q3A included) be run at that resolution? I mean, come on, there IS a limit to what resolution is available in poor five year old Q3A.

Second, does the dual link DVI complicate things in any way?

Dual link DVI should not break anything. AFAIK, games never look and see what type of connection to a monitor they have.

As for gaming at full resolution, it should be possible, though even the 6800 would have problems at that resolution with modern games.

Any OpenGL style game should be able to scale just fine...assuming the resolutions aren't hard-coded into the game.

The dual-DVI think is a non-issue

I don't know how many games will support it, but again, Q3-based games should work and I know for a fact that WoW works.
Be happy.

World of Warcraft has true widescreen support so you get the wide field-of-view, and runs nicely at the full 2560x1600 resolution. We gave it a quick run through at WWDC 2004.

Speaking of WWDC, they had UT2k4 on the 30" demo machine and it ran fine. Though I don't know if it was at native resolution or not. But it's cool that WoW works, Rob.
