It's that time of the year again...

...yup, it's time to think how cool it would be if the following games were ported to OS X:

Prince of Persia 1 and 2
Duke 3D (should be coming in the next 3 years)
Unreal Tournament (should also be coming in the next 3 years)
Deus Ex (could be coming soon...or not)
Carmageddon 2
Monkey Island 4

...keep the list going, guys.

Any or all of Capcom's Mega Man installments that were released for Windows a few years back (MegaMan Legends 1 and 2, Mega Man X3, X4, X5, and X6). ^^;;;

Diablo 1 for sure.

I know I've got a lot of games sitting around here (mostly demos/shareware...) that in a few years I'll wish to play just for nostalgia's sake and because I know they are good at relieving boredom (although maybe not much more).... shadow wraith comes to mind. Something called "AmoebArena" too, I think.

I remember there was a DuckHunt-like game on my mom's LC... couldn't use it on her 575, because it ran too fast...

LodeRunner was cool, too... and PowerPete... man I wish I could play those two every once in a while (they're sitting around here somewhere on a Zip disk... but my zip drives have long since perished (click of death victims))

Hell yes!!!

Hellcats and Leyte Gulf were great flight sims. Didnt need a thick manual or a pilots license to fly.

Duke Nukem is also on my list. Again, good fun without a steep learning curve.

Full Throttle <----- I know it needs a new story BUT I would love to see an update.

Dark Colony yeah StarCraft was more involved but for raw blood quality - DC was it.

Postal 1.0 [has any seen my ear?] hahaha
I never liked the "GTA-styled" rewrite of this one.

Postal was great.

Postal "GTA-styled" rewrite is coming to Mac, btw...even if you didn't like it.

Full Throttle and Curse of Monkey Island don't really need ports anymore now that ScummVM is here and working really well. http://www.scummvm.org

I bought Falcon 4.0 years ago...and never played it. Required a joystick...and I knew it at the time. I was trying to gather enough money for a good joystick and a good videocard...but by that time, Mac OS X came around. That'll teach me to buy games before I have the specs to run it.

There are just too many problems with this one. I'm not sure what you mean by 'relatively well' but it's not working relatively well here...

I've never had a problem with it, even playing both Marathon conversions (though the sound on one of them is messed up a bit, probably due to bat sample rate conversions) is fine.

People keep bringing up Lucas Arts games but ScummVM exists. e-bay will get you the PC or Mac versions you want and ScummVM will do the rest.

There was an old PC game I loved called Stars! which was a really basic take-over-the-universe game. It had few graphics to speak of and looked like an odd desktop application. I liked it because I could easily play the game while doing other things. I long for a Mac equivilent of it.

I'd also love an updated version of Bolo for OSX using some sweet Rendezvous action and some Quartz 2D graphics. Like Stars!, Bolo could be played while you were doing something else which makes it an excellent time waster. I've seen XBolo but I think the company developing it went out of business because their website is long gone. Some Bolo action using modern Mac capabilities would be pretty sweet.

As mentioned before:

Deus Ex and the original Unreal.

Also, the original Master of Orion (though it runs just fine in Classic mode).

That was a great game. Although I recommend playing MOOI to satisfy this requirement. I play it in classic mode and it runs pretty well in a window environment. I still think it was the best of the MOO series, certainly better than MOO3, a game I waited years for a gave up on in days.

A lot of people say Duke Nukem Forever has taken the prize for 'game that took the longest time developing'...but they're wrong...it's Return to Dark Castle.

I think it's going to turn 7 years soon if it hasn't already.

They've never given any indication of when it might be done either

I remember playing Dark Castle and Beyond Dark Castle on the old Mac 512K... Them were the days.

you can play starcraft perfectly well on OS X ... there's even a carbn installer.

I would like AirBorne a lot ... made by Sillicon Beach Software, one of the two guys that made it is now Manager for Flash products in macromedia.

I admit that it doesn't feel the same though...nothing felt better than playing DC and BDC on the ol' 512K. They don't make games like they used to.

Very fun. Dad's old 512k is packed up in the basement in its original box and very rarely sees the light of day. I'm sure he still has all the disks for the various games somewhere, but... ah well.

Oh, Apache Strike was also a very fun game. I remember playing that for hours!

Apache Strike...hehe...Silicon Beach Software made the coolest games ever. I'm sad they closed their door. I'm sad that Jonathan Gay went to work for Macromedia. And I'm sad Bill Appleton stopped making games. Mark Pierce had a real artistic talent...sad he's not doing any more Mac game art either.

Unreal (not UT) - Still one of the best single player games I've played, despite the somewhat cheesy ending.

Abuse - The current open source OS X version is a port of the PC version, which doesn't include the graphics smoothing option and a number of other features found in Bungie's Mac version.

Rogue Spear - IMO still the best of the Rainbow Six series of games, despite the somewhat dated engine.
