Just curious for a little info. I do a fair amount of gaming on my G5 and I currently have the Nvidia 5200 in it at the moment. Should I upgrade to the 256MB Pro Mac Special edition or should I wait to see if ATI will release the X800 for the mac. i really have no intention of getting any Nvidia chip.

The simple answer is, do you want it now or do you want it later? It's the same as with all computer parts...it'll always be faster later, and cheaper later, but if you only ever buy things later, you never have them now.

Wait for the X800, as it's easily twice as fast as the 9800...
Be happy.

...and at the glacial rate at which Apple gets video cards out, the X800 will be standard in the 2012 iMac! And people will grouse about it being a crappy video card.

As always with computer stuff: buy the best you can when you can. If you wait, there will always be something better on the horizon.

I think it's Nvidia and ATI that are the problem, not Apple. But then you have to remember, Macs are the smallest market.

I agree with mac freak, wait for the X800. ATI should have a retail version out, my guess, this winter. It doesn't make sense money-wise to upgrade from a Nvidia 5200 or a Radeon 9600 (Pro or XT), to a Radeon 9800 Mac SE. The upgrade to the X800 looks like it will be worth it.

True enough. I understand Apple's gotta be cranked about the 6800 delays. I'm waiting for the 6800 to ship so I can upgrade my 9600. Don't know if I would wait for the X800. A person could be waiting for a while.
