Has anyone been able to get the demo to MYST IV Revelations Demo to work?
it pops into my dock for a split second (just enough to move my icons aside a bit and then disappears.
The link for the demo is:
ftp://ftp.ubi.com/emea/myst4/demo/MIV_demo.zip

This happens to me on my 550 TiBook, but it work fine on my Dual Gig G4. Perhaps it is due to the demo's system requirements -
MAC SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS*
G4 933MHz or +
Disk Space ~200 MB
128 Mb Ram +
32 Mb video Card
Nvidia Geforce 2,4,FX
Ati 7500-9600
CD reader
OSX 10.2.8 or OSX 10.3.3

IIRC the Myst IV demo must reside in your applications folder in order to run properly. No running it off of external drives, no running it out of a 'games' folder, etc.
And it works just fine for me on a dual 2 GHz G5.

It won't work on my TiBook 1Ghz in any folder, including the Applications folder.

doesn't work for me either
alum 15" powerbook
1.25ghz G4
512mb ram
30GB free
that would eplain why apple took it off their Game pages... I haven't played the game since the original Myst, wasn't that one done in HyperCard on a Mac?

Ok finally found a solution on Ubi Forums:
. The app is initially write protected, so select it, type command-I (or choose Get Info... from the File menu) and set its permissions to allow you to Read & Write, and apply the settings to all enclosed folders and files.
2. Open Terminal.
3. navigate into the Myst4.app package with the "cd" command. In my case, I typed "cd MIV_demo/Myst4.app". You may need to CD into your Desktop folder or wherever you put the demo folder as well. Mine was directly in my user directory (/Users/samr/).
4. type "chmod a+x Myst4" to allow execution of the executable file.
5. quit Terminal.
6. Control-click on the Myst4 application package and choose "Show Package Contents..." from the contextual menu.
7. Double-click on the Myst4 executable file (it should look like a terminal window with a ">" in it).
after playing the demo for 5 min I gave up...its SLOOOOOOOW and this is on a 1.25ghz pbook.

Wow. Thanks for the help livemotion. It worked. I wonder why they are still distributing a borked demo.
It plays ok on a 1.33 GHz iBook (1 GB RAM). Bit laggy at times but playable IMO.
cheers
