My mom just bought a Logitech Optical trackball, and boy, I was surprised. I tried it out for a day on my Powerbook and it was very very comfortable and easy to use, and with the small amount of room with the iPod here it was awesome not having to move the mouse, (also my table is glass, so optical mice don't really work that well)

But I am probably going to play games sooner or later, and am wondering about gaming and trackball mice. has anyone tried it? it doesn't seem too hard, but a regular optical mouse probably has more control huh?

this isn't going to be the pushover that will convince me to get a logitech mx500, but if trackball mice and gaming is ok, i'm going to go to office depot and buy the last one

i'm going to play FPS and maybe some driving games.

I've used trackballs exclusively for the past 3-4 years now, and play lots of games (FPS mainly, on my PC). I have no problems at all.

I have big hands, and prefer the Microsoft Trackball Optical to the logitech models though. Make sure whatever you get fits your hand well.

EDIT: wrong ms trackball name

I also have used Trackballs for several years and use them for gaming too. I love it! People think I'm crazy when they hear I'm playing FPS games with a trackball, but I think it's probably better than a normal mouse, because you don't have to constantly move your arm, pick the mouse up and move it back, and all that.

Also, when you get really good with it, you can kinda just give it a quick spin and position your gun where you want it more quickly than with a normal mouse.

I think you'll enjoy it! With trackballs, you either love em right off the bat, or hate em.

I use a wireless Kensington Turbo Mouse Pro, which has a ton of buttons I can program to do different things in the game, like selecting certain weapons/grenades/etc.
