OK.

I bought an iMac G5 with the nVidia 5200 Ultra with 64 meg DDR memory.

I added a 512 meg stick to bring my iMac to 768 megs total system RAM.

I just played C&C Generals in 1024 x 768 mode with Medium video setting.

No slowdowns, no pauses, very fluid and just like on my PC.

This game is notorious for bring a Dual G5 to its knees (or so I have read).

No problems here.

Now if I could just get the annoying high pitch fan noise to stop!

And this is during just idle time too.

Great! Glad to hear you are enjoying your machine, well except for the noise. (no pun intended) If you get a chance could you run some xbench, cinebench, quake, halo or ut04 test?
Thanks

Yep, it is definately a big improvement over the previous iMac. However, it is still not as good as on my 17" 1.5GHz PowerBook/Radeon 9700 or my PowerMac G5 1.6GHz/Radeon 9600 - especially with all the details maxed out.

Doesn`t sound too shaby.
I hope the endless discussions about the graphics card stop now.

Unless that game supports widescreen, that is the native resolution for 4:3 aspect ratio.

If I were Apple I would`ve included the option to go for a better graphics card (if it`s possible in the PB`s they should be able to do the same with the iMac`s).
On the other hand: heat might be the reason why didn`t do it.

How about some FPS tests?

UT2k4, Halo, CoD, BF1942?

Does the iMac look "clunky" in person?
