Hello all,

Just putting together costs for the 1.8 G5 and I'm going to add in the 9600XT card. I've got the new 20" Apple display (1680x1050) and wondered how well this card would handle the resolutions. I'm currently using my PB15 with a 64MB 9700 card, so I'm assuming this going to be a nice step up. I'll be playing CoD, NWN, WC3, AOM and ....maybe Doom3 if they ever bring out the OSX client ;-)

So far, everything runs pretty well. It gets a bit choppy in Homeworld2 (Gods, NICE game), but I'm looking for something with a nice kick ready for World of Warcraft.

Any thoughts and input would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 9600 Pro and WoW is just fine on my dual 1.8. Look a few threads down for the wow performance thread... lots of good info there, and really as much as we can possibly know until Blizzard decides the game is ready to be released.

As for Doom 3... you might want to be looking at the 9800... probably mostly depends on how picky you are/how much you can tolerate (depending on which way you want to look at it...)

My PC has a 9800 card installed and it does OK, but I can't justify slinging a 9800 in the machine just for one game. Shame, really, cos it looks bloody good!

My 9600 is not that bad at all. Granted I cannot turn all the bells and whistles on in many games, it runs most things pretty smooth. So far I played, CoD, Homeworld 2, Battlefield 1942, C&C Generals, Halo and Warcraft 3 with no problems. You may have issues with Doom 3 if it ever comes out for OSX. BTW, I have a 22" screen with my machine.

Thanks for the replies all!

I think the 9600'll meet my needs. Plus it's not much to update and I can always drop the res down if necessary.
