I got a demo of this from one of the Mac magazines, while the game play is unique and the demo only offers two levels. I'm having some trouble.
Is there any way to save in mid level. I'm trying the second level of the demo and I keep dying. Its a pain that once I die, I need to start the whole level over again. Is this just a demo and there are saves done (automatically or manually) in mid-level?

I don't understand what that last sentence says...
But, anyway, I hear that even in the full game you can't quick save.

That's cool demo, I've been playing it a lot. I notice that near the end of the second level, I keep getting stuck, meaning I can't move... Anybody else have this problem. I love this game, but I'm having a hard time shelling out $55 + shipping to play the rest of the game.... I can confirm that if something happens while you are playing, you have to start at the beginning of the level

I hate the game. It's the only one I've encountered where they combine extremely tough computer opponents (they usually take a full clip to kill) with scarce ammo and a very weak player character.
I played the demo a while back and I kept getting killed when I thought I was winning. I'd go into a room with two or three enemies and do my usual FPS strategy of spraying each one with five or six bullets. No such luck. Five or six shots later I was dead and they were all in seemingly perfect health. I tried it again and realized you have to hold down on the trigger for a few seconds to kill anyone. During which time, of course, you yourself are killed. Nevermind that you have a machine gun and they have a pistol.
It didn't even run that bad on my computer. I had a Radeon 9800 which of course helped, but I found the gameplay to be so bad that there's no way I'd even pay $20 for the game, much less $50.

Sounds like you need a new strategy!
Seriously though, with computer AI getting better and better, that strategy wont be effective for very long.

The thing you have to remember in XII is to use the map to its fullest, use stealth for as long as you can, an always aim for the head. Most enemies wear body armor which explains why shooting them in the body does little. The face area works best.

so is there any accuracy for head shots with a pistol at medium to long range?
or is the game sci-fi and lets you have "Sniper" abilities with a Glock9 at 2000 yds . . .
I ask because I like those cartoon based games and was thinking of playing the demo. Loved and still play, "Fear Effect" on PS1 and of course the original "Full Throttle" on Mac.
I am not too good on the FPS games but a good one is worth trying.

That's true, you do have to shoot guys in the head. Then again, it puts you in a number of situations (in the demo at least) where there are enemies way up on a cliff and your only option is to shoot at them from fairly long range with a 9mm pistol. There's no "aim down the sight" feature like in Call Of Duty.
Anyway, I just found the game to be fairly uninspired, as far as gameplay goes. The style is pretty cool, but movement feels jerky or somehow just not right. There are no save points at all (as far as I can tell) and it's just not worth the $50.

Let me rephrase my question.
The demo has two levels. I'm on the second level, there appears to be no way to save the game while playing the level, so if I need to step away I can pick the game back up (w/o starting level 2 from the beginning) or if I die (which is happening way too much).
I wasn't sure this lack of saving was the result of it being a demo, thus the full version allows frequent saves or if this is a "feature" of the game.
Nice game, I enjoy it, but I'm not sure I want to shell out money for a game that requires restarting the level from the beginning.

No, you can't save at just any point in a level. There are checkpoints you should save at the instant you hit them, but other than that, you're screwed. I like the game, but that feature really bugs me. As for the AI being too hard, I like a challenge, and I don't think these enemies are THAT difficult to kill.

You couldn't save at arbitrary points in Marathon either.

Oh good, there are checkpoints. Quicksaves make a game too easy.

I've found the actual game very satisfying, and fun. I thought it was tough at first, until I was careful and AVOIDED bullets. I think thats the key.

Its an addicting game, I'll probably pick it up at amazon or where I find the cheapest price. The demo brought me to a site that wanted to charge mt in excess of 50 bucks, no thanks, I'll find it cheaper elsewhere.
