I'm having a small problem getting Quake 3 running on my iBookG4 with an external monitor. I used to do it just fine with my CRT but now that I got a new Flat Panel LCD monitor I keep losing the signal everytime I start quake.
I've tried it with the monitor in Spanning mode and in Mirror mode and I get the same problem everytime. Now the game works fine without the monitor AND also works on the laptop monitor when in mirror mode, but doesn't show up on the LCD monitor. I have an SGI 1600sw monitor.
Please, if any of you have any suggestions, I would love to hear them. My PC recently died (gave parts away to someone in need) and so I'm left gameless. The only game I have for the mac is Quake 3 Arena (using Windows install disc for the paks and then the Mac OS X Update for the binaries).
If you need any more information, just let me know. My iChat SN is "Pescaditodejesus" and im currently hanging on the macnn irc channel if you need to contact me.

My best guess is that Quake 3 is trying to use a Resolution/Refresh rate that is incompatible with your external screen. Trash the Prefs for Q3 and run it solely on the external LCD and see what happens. If this doesn't work, you may have to set the screen res, etc in the config files.

One way I found to easily make any game play on an external monitor from a laptop, is to go into System Prefs. Then Displays and click on the arrangement tab that comes up, drag the little white menu bar to the external display. Now boot Quake 3 with a fresh config file as stated above and it should hopefully appear on the external monitor.

I got it working. In case anyone comes up with the same problem this is how I fixed my game.
First off, I put my laptop/ext. monitor in mirror mode. Then I have my ext. mon as the default (the one with the menubar) and then I went into quake (still visable via laptop monitor) I put the command r_customaspect 0 (default 1), then I quit the game and restarted it, and it worked fine on my ext. monitor.
Thanks for the help,
