wut do u mean by hardcore? i consider my self to be hardcore. i play for up to 8 hrs a day, is that hardcore? i've stayed up all night 3 days in a row playing diablo 2 when ladder reset, is that hardcore? I dont see why ppl wont call me a gamer, just because i dont use the normal piece of $H!T computer that every1 else does. its like saying white ppl can play basketball but cant play in the nba.

the situation would improve a lot if the games that were release were all mac-pc compatible.

I think Apple needs to come down off their high-horse of "not letting consumer macs have decent graphics cards" and remedy that problem.

fix those two things and I bet it would get a lot better

I consider myself a hardcore Mac gamer. I've purchased some of the most recent Mac games all of which have had a considerable bug or broken feature. Not a single one has been patched yet. Some of these issues will be "self corrected" when Apple releases new drivers.

I'm really tired of hearing that... "Apple releases new drivers." How I could go on and on. /sigh

So what did I do? I bought a PC last week just for gaming. I'm sure this will cause me more grief than it's worth and I'll ditch the machine in a year. But I'm just tired of all the non-sense; slow ports, lack of ports, slow patches, lack of patches, Apple controlling driver releases, etc, etc.

Apple honestly doesn't want to be a company known for Mac gaming. I seriously believe that. The 6800 Ultra wasn't brought to the platform for gaming, it was brought to sell flat panels to designers and those that drive Ferrari's. They're also heavy into the music business now; did you see those quarterly results? Over 2 million iPods sold and huge profits. I don't think they're gonna stop attempting to control that space for awhile.

Traitor...

True enough, so why do it? What games, namely, are buggy for u? I know a lot of ppl complain about halo being unplayable yadda yadda, but this is easily remedied if the user has a brain. Most buggy-ness can be fixed or worked around and if you truely are a hardcore gamer you would know this. Besides the peecee version is just as f'd up. Most ppl who use their comps exclusively for gaming dont use the factory cards, etc anyways.

If you want preformance buy an ati radeon 9800000000 with 256 mB of memory and shove it in a dual 2.5 gHz G5 with 8 gigs of ram and tell me that I still fragged ur ass because "u lagged."

Haha! Good show. Not even talking about Halo... been playing that for awhile now; even placed in the finals at MacWorld SF 2004. Uhm, so.... anyway.

The 3 bugged games I bought are: Sim City Rush Hour, Railroad Tycoon 3 and Homeworld 2. I won't bother to tell you what issues they have because it appears you like Halo.

As for needing a 9800/256 with a dual 2.5 G5 to play a single game... uhm yeah; the $700 I spend on a PC is well worth it.

As for traitor... there are many Mac users who own PCs for gaming. Sad but true.

PC vs. Mac for gaming is the ultimate strawman, of course the PC has a considerable edge. Mac will be a 2nd class gaming system until we get some original content going on the Apple platform, like the old days of Bungie.

The porting houses do a fantastic job of getting the games over to the Mac, which makes it possible to play some great games. However, until Apple releases a computer that can win them significant market share, the current situation is unlikely to change. Having the games be developed simutaneously on both platforms is a rare thing indeed.

Blizzard be praised for their equal treatment of Mac gamers.
Don't blame me - I voted Democrat

Well said.

Those old days where so fun; man. Just waiting for the demo of Myth:TFL back in Nov. 1997 (?) was truly a good time.
