Hi all,
Anybody have any luck installing today's (Nov. 7) World of Warcraft patch? Every time I load the game, I crash when the game gets to "handshaking". For people who were in the closed beta, do we download this sort of patch by just trying to log into the game? (this patch is supposed to be delivered by the Blizzard downloader).
Thanks for any help, RD.
EDIT: Re-installing did the trick. Thanks!

just started mine after reading this thread (been too busy today to play ) and it downloaded the downloader just fine... no crashing after handshake. Downloader hasn't started yet, but it seems to always start off slowly.
patch seems to be 20MB, and yes, I just downloaded it by logging in.
If you still have the last installer around, I'd trash your WoW folder and reinstall using the installer, then try logging in... just to make sure everything is clean. Also make sure you don't have anything like Little Snitch or other firewall-ish stuff causing problems.
just now the downloader took off... 35KB/sec or so. Reasonable clip for the file size.

Downloaded it, installed it, played it.
Damn, I don't know that I like the patch though -- a lot of bad stuff rolled into that 20 MB.

Personally, I couldn't be happier about the new patch. The again, I'm a NE Hunter so I happened to get quite a lot of love out of that patch. My long lost talents are finally here (and I had 9 points all saved up), pet improvements and come cool racial abilities (I love being a wisp when I die (not that I ever do, of course....cough..cough).
The game *looks* a lot better to me as well. They have changed the chat font which makes things just look crisp and clear IMO.
For you guys who didn't like the changes in this patch, I am curious - what, specifically, didn't you like about the changes?

death penalties (decay and rez penalties), reagent additions, taunt changes, lots of things, more tedium, less fun, and more difficult gameplay (which can be a good thing)
but if your a solo hunter I could see why your having a blast =p
the kicker of this is the fact that it will all be in retail, they changed a huge amount of things and no testing of it will happen
foolish, people are up in arms on the WoW boards, which have now been broken all morning

Yeah, a lot of moaning has been going on over on the main forums. Rez and death penalties seem to be the biggest problems for me, but if they are too strict, I'm sure that Blizz will tone them down in the next patch.
It's hard to complain about the class changes without some good time spent testing and experiencing them.

Even if this is the version they ship, I'm sure there will be a patch released on the first day. It happens with all Blizzard games.

Back to the original question- I did have some problems with the last patch. I installed WoW under under my primary system account on my PowerBook but have been playing for quite a while with a system account I created just for WoW- long story why. When I tried to launch and apply the patch under this secondary account, same thing happened as you describe. Happened 4-5 times in a row. Went back to my primary account and launched, downloaded the patch and played perfectly. I am now back to using the secondary account no prob.
Both accounts are admin, so I don't think that's the issue, but if my experience helps you or gives you some ideas, great.

Paco is bitter about the loss of his .mac webpage. Image will return when his sadness lessens.
